Soccer Odds - Ukraine vs. Poland Match Preview

Ukraine-vs.-Polane-Picks-17

The first team eliminated from Euro 2016 is Ukraine. The team has nothing left to play for but pride at this point, and that's why Poland is an odds-on favorite to take the three points which would guarantee at least a second place finish in Group C.

ODDS ANALYSIS

The argument could be made that Ukraine has been the worst team in this tournament. The club had nothing going for it against Northern Ireland, one of the worst teams in the field according to the Euro 2016 futures, and it's now 0-0-2 and -4 in goal differential to show for its work.

That alone is enough of a reason for Poland to be the -105 favorite to capture the three points in this duel.

Even though Ukraine has yet to score a goal in France and Poland played the first scoreless draw of the tournament against Germany, the total in this match is relatively high at 2.5 with -120 vig on the under.

TOURNAMENT UPDATE

It's tough to argue with anything Poland has done thus far in the Euros. Sure, Robert Lewandowski has almost surprisingly not scored a goal yet, but the team had its chances against Germany and was always better than Northern Ireland. The four points from those matches is probably good enough to go through regardless of what happens, though a point would ensure a second place finish in the group.

Ukraine hasn't had any responses for the four goals it has allowed, though it should be noted that both Germany and Northern Ireland doubled their respective tallies in stoppage time in matches which could've bared at least some fruits.

LIVE BETTING

Even though all eyes are going to be on Lewandowski for sure, Arkadiusz Milik has really made himself a household name in this tournament. He's got the lone goal for Poland to his credit, and he really had the two best chances of the match against Germany.

The Poles really haven't had a lot of other great attacking options aside from their two strikers, but that might be all that's needed in this one. Ukraine has had a terrible time in defense, and goalie Andriy Pyatov has had far too much action in front of his own net for safe keeping.

QUICK PICK

Ukraine hasn't been quite as bad as 4-0 suggests in two matches, but its lack of motivation here is a real concern. Sure, teams with nothing to play for often end up coming out with some spunk, but Poland has really been clinical on the defensive end of the pitch throughout this tournament without allowing a goal.

It's also only a matter of time until Lewandowski finally gets something together and puts together a moment of brilliance. He was one of the favorites to win the Golden Boot at the start of this tournament, and though he clearly isn't going to be doing so now without some absolutely outstanding matches, he's still one of the most dangerous men in this field.

If Poland can hold off Ukraine for the first 20 or 30 minutes, we can't see a way the Ukrainians get back in the soccer match. Poland should continue to push with caution and pick apart the Ukraine defense, and eventually, it'll all tell with the goal which will remove any doubt about advancing into the last 16.
