In other groups, Borussia Monchengladbach would've had a legitimate chance of getting into the last 16 of the Champions League. Getting drawn into the Group of Death was a horrible fate for them, and after pulling off just one goal versus five allowed in the first two matches in Group D, the task will get no easier against the table-toppers, Juventus on Wednesday.
ODDS ANALYSIS
There's no real surprise here as to who is favored in this match. Juve might not be in the best form domestically, something we'll speak about in a moment, but the team is still clearly superior to a mid-table German team.
The Old Lady is set at -220 on the moneyline to take a crucial three points that would all but ensure qualification into the knockout rounds of the UCL. On the Asian handicap, Juve is set at -1 and -139 vig.
The total is understandably a bit higher than average, knowing that Juventus is expected to run roughshod in this one. The total to beat has been lined at 2.5 and -120 vig on the over.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"We know that we're not exactly favorites, but we don't have much to lose either. We want to win there. Of course, we've not got any points yet, but that should be motivation for us." – Borussia Monchengladbach defender Alvaro Dominguez on the task at hand against Juventus on Italian soil on Wednesday
RECENT FORM
There is a tad bit of good news for the Foals in this one. They've won four matches in a row domestically since the resignation of Lucien Favre as their manager. They might not have a point yet in the Champions League, but as Dominguez suggests, there's nothing to lose. About the only result which would truly help would be getting four points in two matches against Juventus coming up here in quick succession. Getting left out in the cold without a point would basically spell death.
The Old Lady has had her work cut out for her this year. Yes, Juve has looked good in the Champions League with successive wins over Sevilla and Manchester City, but on the home front, things haven't been good. A scoreless draw at Inter Milan wasn't a suitable result, and the team already has a loss against Napoli and very disappointing draws against Frosinone and Chievo here at home on the ledger in the 2015-16 term.
ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION
The plea from Massimiliano Allegri are very clear. He's begging his team to be more focused and disciplined throughout the rest of this season if it wants to get back on track.
Men like Paul Pogba and Patrice Evra, veterans of the sport and regulars here in the Champions League, have made far too many mistakes, and those efforts are permeating through the side when there are problems.
Is Borussia Monchengladbach really a good enough team to come to Italy and knock off finalists from last year's Champions League? It might not, but with its current form, we see no reason not to take that goal on the Asian handicap. We think there's a legitimate chance at that upset as well, but in the end, we have a hunch the Germans will walk away with just a hard-fought point. Gutsier bettors might take a stab on the moneyline in hopes of the upset.
