After two consecutive losses, D.C. United (8-4-5, 28 Points) will look to continue holding its advantage in the Eastern Conference on Sunday against the oncoming New England Revolution (6-6-4, 24 Points).
ODDS ANALYSIS
Considering the fact that United has struggled so much, it isn't shocking that the team is barely favored in this match. The issue that we have though, is that home field advantage doesn't seem to be considered all that much. D.C. is set at just +160, only 20 cents off of the +180 price on the heads of the Revolution, which doesn't feel right.
The total is fairly average by MLS standards at 2.5 (under -120).
KEY INJURIES
Until Chris Pontius gets back in the fold for D.C. United, the team is going to have some problems offensively. Pontius has been out for weeks with a hip injury, and it is unknown whether this is going to be the week for him to be back in the fold or not. Sean Franklin is also questionable with an ankle injury.
The Revs are relatively healthy at this point, but they still have a pair of long term injuries in Jermaine Jones and Darrius Barnes.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"At home, we like him in this setting, just because in a game like that where a team is going to come in and be a little bit tighter to break down and be in their blocks, Diego is really good getting through there." – Revolution manager Jay Heaps on the new role he has given to Diego Fagundez, the big goal scorer against Chicago in the team's last match
RECENT FORM
D.C. United has only scored one goal in its last two matches, and that's why it is suddenly headed down the wrong path. Consecutive losses for the first time this season have erased the memories of two straight wins against Philadelphia and Chicago.
The Revs hadn't won a match since May 2 before beating Chicago 2-0 last week. It was a great game for a team which really needed a pick-me-up, though it should be noted that the team has had a positive result in three of its last four matches overall.
TALKING TOTALS
United had played three straight over matches before getting beaten 1-0 in Orlando last week. Not surprisingly, with as bad as the Red and Blacks have looked offensively, the prices on their unders have dipped just a bit.
The under has cashed in consecutive New England matches, but the fact of the matter is that the Revolution have come really close to putting games past the number. Ten consecutive New England fixtures have featured at least two goals since a scoreless draw against Columbus on April 11.
ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION
D.C. United's offense has been completely stagnant of late. Jairo Arrieta hasn't really had a big impact on the offense, and Chris Rolfe has been nowhere to be found as well. The common thread between both of these men is that Pontius has setup a ton of goals for each.
New England really got going offensively when Diego Fagundez started to drift forward just a bit. Lee Nguyen, one of the top offensive threats last year in the run to the Eastern Conference title, also looks a lot stronger at the top of the pitch as well.
The Revolution probably don't have the best odds on their side imaginable, but we still think they are going to win this match at least 40 percent of the time or so, which would make this +180 price excellent.
