There wasn't really a lot in the way of expectation this season at Sporting Kansas City. Most at Children's Mercy Park assumed SKC would be a playoff team and maybe catch some fire when it got there. It surely didn't suspect this club would be in first place in the West 14 matches into the season. Sporting will take on Minnesota United at home this weekend with a shot to extend what currently sits as a two-point lead in the conference.

Odds Analysis
Sporting Kansas City is 5-1-0 this season at home, and that's why they're a whopping -200 on the moneyline. Though teams are odds-on favorites at home all the time in the MLS, getting to that -200 mark is something you don't see every single week. Sporting is laying a full goal on the Asian Handicap and might end up closer to -1.5 by the time this one kicks off.
The total is incredibly high here at 3, but this is largely because of the inconsistency of the Minnesota United defense, one which still easily leads the MLS with 30 goals allowed.
Key Injuries
The Loons are playing without Bernardo Anor, Thomas de Villardi and Abu Danladi, but there's really nothing new to worry about or minor knocks that have been reported.
Diego Rubio's torn ACL is going to leave him off the pitch for quite some time. The real question on the injury front for this match is regarding Dom Dwyer. He's largely been one of the best players in the history of Sporting Kansas City. He's battling a knee injury and is officially questionable.
Recent Form
Minnesota United is one of the toughest teams in the MLS to try to figure out. The club beat Orlando City at home last weekend, but that came on the heels of getting beaten 2-1 at home by an LA Galaxy club that is typically terrible on the road. The win against Orlando City was a particularly sweet one for manager Adrian Heath. Heath, of course, was the first coach in Orlando City's history before he was unceremoniously fired in the middle of last season.
Sporting Kansas City has had a bad run on the road these last couple weeks. The team was forced to the West Coast in consecutive weeks. After 180 minutes of soccer against Vancouver and Colorado, Sporting had no goals and ultimately, no points. That said, the only blemish this year at home came against FC Dallas in the first home fixture of the season. SKC hasn't allowed a goal here at Children's Mercy Park since beating the Rapids 3-1 way back on April 9.

Christian Ramirez and Kevin Molino have suddenly become one of the better attacking duos in the MLS, and we have to think they're only going to get better and better as the season wears on. That could end up being a bit of a problem against an SKC team that has a fantastic defensive record this season, particularly at home.
When these two teams met a few weeks ago up at TCF Bank Stadium, Minnesota United more or less announced itself as a legitimate contender for the postseason this year by beating Sporting Kansas City 2-0. It was a tremendous match for the Loons, highlighted by two first half goals. And now SKC is going to be -200 back at home? It obviously wouldn't be surprising if the hosts came up with three points in this match, but with as hot and cold as Minnesota United has been, why not call for another "loony" upset?
MLS Odds: Minnesota United 3, Sporting Kansas City 2
