Soccer Odds - Shrewsbury Town vs. Manchester United Match Preview

2016-Shrewsbury-Town-vs-Manchester-United-Bet-Online

Louis van Gaal continues to be under some of the toughest scrutiny in the world. His Manchester United side continues to massively disappoint this season, and after losing on the road to FC Midtjylland in the Europa League on Thursday, it will have to rebound quickly to keep any hopes alive of winning the FA Cup. A last 16 tie against Shrewsbury Town should be a slam dunk, but we've seen worse things happen to the Red Devils this year.

Manchester United -245

Over/Under 2.5 (over -122)

ODDS ANALYSIS

A tricky fixture this is. Manchester United, one of the most recognizable clubs in the world, has to visit a lowly League One side stricken by the possibility of relegation to League Two. Shrewsbury Town has to be the big underdog in this match, and it is such at +1.5 on the Asian Handicap and +750 on the moneyline, but it's tough to suggest that United should be favored by a goal and a half against much of anyone at the moment.

The total has to be a bit lower than the spread would suggest seeing how bad Man U has been offensively at times this year, so 2.5 and -122 vig on the over seems about right.

KEY INJURIES

David De Gea probably wasn't going to play in net in this match anyway for United, but now a knee injury he picked up in warm-ups in Denmark on Thursday ensures that he won't be in the fray. Instead, Sergio Romero is likely to once again start in the pipes. There's a legitimate possibility that Romero might have to be the permanent net minder for the rest of the year for the Red Devils as well if De Gea is out for a long time.

Wayne Rooney is also out for the next two months with a knee injury and won't be a part of this fixture.

QUOTE TO NOTE

"It's just not good enough. It's not acceptable. The performance and the result, it's nowhere near good enough. It's got to be a lot better." – Manchester United midfielder assessing the form of his team after losing in Denmark on Thursday night

RECENT FORM

Shrewsbury Town got a massive victory against Blackpool on the road last weekend to help bevy its chances of survival in League One. That's now two straight positive results for Town, though this would be one of the biggest wins in the club's history if it was to get it. Shrewsbury has beaten Sheffield Wednesday, Cardiff City, Grimsby Town and Gainsborough United to reach the last 16 of the FA Cup.

Man U has only had to play two matches here in the FA Cup, the first of which was a win over Sheffield United at home. The second of those matches could've been dangerous against Derby County on the road, but the Red Devils, thanks to Rooney's strong play, made it through.

ANALYSIS AND ODDS PREDICTION

Take away Rooney and De Gea, and all of a sudden, Manchester United looks a little more like a middling Premier League side and less of a team which still isn't all that far removed from the top of the country.

We could really see Town causing some problems here, especially at home where emotions are sure to be running high. It'd be nice to see Shrewsbury get through this fixture, but instead, we think we're going to end up seeing a replay at Old Trafford. We'll definitely take the goal and a half with the way United is playing at the moment.

Shrewsbury Town 0, Manchester United 0
