Soccer Odds - Tottenham vs. Chelsea Match Preview

2017-Soccer-Tottenham-vs.-Chelsea-Betting-Odds

Santa saved the best for last. The holiday fixture list is always incredibly complex to get around in the Premier League, but the last day of the official set of these matches is clearly one of the best. Tottenham probably only has one shot left to win the Premier League this year, and it's clear that this match against Chelsea absolutely has to be won to have any chance whatsoever to making that dream come true.

Don't miss the Barclays Premier League action from White Hart Lane at 3 p.m. ET on Wednesday, January 4, 2016. Catch every moment of the match live on NBC Sports Network.

Odds Analysis

Talk about too close to call. Chelsea is playing the best ball of any team we've seen in quite some time, but Tottenham is a team that always plays it tough. The Blues are actually the underdogs in this matchup, but the margin is literally razor thin. Tottenham is the +172 "favorite," per se, but of course, this is about as close as it gets. Chelsea is just behind at +175, and it's conceivable that either one of these teams could be the betting favorite by the time this one kicks off on Wednesday.

In fact, the draw price of +225 is about as low as you're going to see in the Premier League in a match in the middle of the season.

The total is set at a flat 2.5.

Key Injuries

Chelsea remains relatively healthy through the holidays. The Blues are missing John Terry thanks to a minor muscle injury, but it's not like he's the same player that he was even a handful of years ago. He won't even be missed in the Starting XI. John Mikel Obi is also out of the fold thanks to a muscle injury.

Tottenham is actually relatively healthy now as well after a bit of a tough stretch at the beginning of the season. Erik Lamela has a hip injury that has kept him out since November.

Recent Form

This run Chelsea is on is about as good as it gets at a level this high. The Blues are really just a few more wins in a row away from probably putting the Premier League title away in January or February, especially if a match like this could ultimately be won on the road at the Lane.

The Blues have captured 13 Premier League matches in a row and 10 fixtures consecutively in all competitions. The most recent victims are Stoke City and Bournemouth, both of which came to Stamford Bridge and walked away with multi-goal defeats.

They say that square bettors bet against streaks, while sharp bettors bet into them. You're not going to see a better line on Chelsea with the form that it's in than right here. Of course, that doesn't mean that the Blues are going to be the winners, but we're going to take our chances on the Asian Handicap at a pick 'em. There's a really good chance that this match ends with a share of the spoils to both, and that's why we want that safety net for a return of investment.

Still, given the choice between the two, we know that we want the Blues on our side. Mauricio Pochettino has proven time and time again that he isn't beyond more or less parking the bus, albeit with a really talented team. But can Hugo Lloris really hold off a team that is playing as well as Chelsea is offensively? That's what we're not sure about.
