Soccer Odds - Tottenham vs. Everton Match Preview

2018-Soccer-Tottenham-vs.-Everton-NBC-preview-Betting-Lines

Tottenham Hotspur have either been incredibly good or incredibly bad this season. They've got a 12-5-5 record, a mark that is usually good enough to be in the championship discussion through the midway point in the season. However, they're sitting fifth-best with just 16 fixtures left to play.

Everton is essentially in a chase to get to 40 points. We know that the Toffees aren't going to be worried about relegation in the end, but their work for the rest of the season is merely avoiding the drop.

This Barclays Premier League duel will go down Saturday, January 13, 2017, at 12:30 p.m. ET at Wembley Stadium. The match will be televised live on NBC.

Odds Analysis

Tottenham is an awfully heavy favorite in this match at -400. The team is being asked to lay a goal and a half on the Asian Handicap, and it's going to take a lot to cover that against a team that is sitting on the top of the table and has challenged a ton of top clubs this year.

With Everton nabbing Cenk Tosun early in the transfer window, it's clear that this team should be better than it was in the first half of the year. Tosun isn't a man who is going to change the entire narrative of the season, though, and this team is still definitively the lesser of the two sides.

Key Injuries

Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman are both going to be back in the Everton lineup at some point, but that some point isn't this weekend. They'll both be out of the fold for sure. Maarten Stekelnburg is a question mark in the Toffees' pipes with a groin injury that has cost him a couple matches at the outset of this season.

Tottenham has been playing without Toby Alderweireld for a couple months. His return is imminent, but he won't be back for at least one more week thanks to a hamstring injury. Danny Rose is probably going to miss this game with a knee problem while Harry Winks should be back in the fold after sitting out the FA Cup duel with AFC Wimbledon.

Recent Form

Tottenham has picked up a positive result in nine of its last 10 matches across all competitions. The one defeat at Manchester City is certainly excusable. The Spurs are fresh off of a 1-1 draw against West Ham, one of the worst matches of their season. They had won their previous three EPL affairs, scoring 10 goals in the three duels against Swansea City, Southampton and Burnley.

Everton hasn't been in any sort of form of late. The team was knocked out of the third-round of the FA Cup in a 2-1 loss to Liverpool last week, and that came on the back of losses to Manchester United at home and Bournemouth away. It's been six fixtures since Everton last won against Swansea City, and its last victory outside of Goodison Park came on December 13 at Newcastle.

The last time these two teams met in September, Harry Kane netted his 100th (and 101st) goal for Spurs in a 3-0 victory.

There wasn't any hope of slowing down Kane in that fixture, and we're not sure Everton is going to find answers this time around either.

If Everton's form was better, we would be a bit more hesitant about laying the lumber with Tottenham. Still, with Kane playing well and the Spurs scoring goals at well, there's little reason to believe they won't get three on the board again to put down the Toffees.

Barclays Premier League Odds: Tottenham 3, Everton 1
