Odds Analysis

The Reds are certainly dangerous and live in this match, and their win on the opening week of the season at the Emirates against Arsenal certainly told us just that. That said, this is still a very tough challenge at White Hart Lane against a Tottenham team which has had a history of really dominating on this pitch. That’s why the Spurs are +135 on the moneyline and the deserving favorite in the match.

The total of 2.5 features the over favored by a -131 margin.

Key Injuries

Liverpool pretty much knows what it's dealing with on the injury front. Loris Karius, Mamadou Sakho and Joseph Gomez are all going to be out of the fold for sure, while the only real concern in the short run is Tiago Ilori, a man who was playing for Brazil in the Olympics and will surely need some time to get back in the swing of things in the BPL.

Tottenham will surely have bigger problems to overcome. Hugo Lloris, one of the top goalies in all of Europe, is going to be out for at least four weeks thanks to a hamstring injury, while Moussa Dembele was suspended for six matches following an incredibly violent challenge at the end of last season, a suspension which still has a couple of fixtures left to it.

Recent Form

Liverpool used a fairly strong side against Burton Albion in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday, a bit of a surprise for a club which generally should have its sights set on bigger goals and shouldn't be worried about matches against lower division clubs in secondary tournaments. That said, the 5-0 victory was a bit therapeutic, especially after getting whacked by Burnley 2-0 at Turf Moor last weekend.

Tottenham wasn't fantastic in its first two matches of the year, but for the most part, the job has been done. The 1-1 draw with Everton wasn't the end of the world on the road, and though the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace last weekend wasn't a work of art, three points are three points, and that's all which could be asked for at this level.

Free Soccer Betting Pick

Even though Liverpool punted those points at Burnley last weekend, we still think this side has fringe hopes of winning the Premier League this season. That said, this is a fixture which has a lot of potential for a lot of goals. Yes, in the first match without Lloris for any part of the proceedings, the Spurs did manage to blank Crystal Palace, but there's a big difference between playing against a team which has no legitimate Premier League strikers and one of the caliber of Liverpool.

The Reds have scored some goals for sure, four against Arsenal and five against Burton Albion of most note. If this offense can figure out how to put the ball in the back of the net more than once against a reserve net minder without much in the way of experience at this level, this could end up being another upset and a match which Jurgen Klopp will be much happier with than his last domestic showing.

BPL Odds: Liverpool 2, Tottenham 1
