The last day of the Premier League season brings high drama for sure, and that drama will be awfully high for visiting Tottenham (18-7-12, 61 Points) against Everton (12-11-14, 47 Points) with a spot in the Europa League there for the guests to be taking.
ODDS ANALYSIS
Tottenham finds itself with 61 points on the season in sixth place on the Premier League table. A win ensures no worse than a sixth place finish, which would send it to the Europa League next year. A loss or a draw though, and the door is open for Southampton, who is just a point back with a massive edge in goal differential to boot.
The Spurs though, find themselves as underdogs in this match. They're just +200 to win the fixture, one which sees Everton lined at +135. The total is high at 2.5 (over -145).
KEY INJURIES
Emmanuel Adebayor should be back this week after recovering from an illness which cost him last week's match against Hull. Kyle Walker and Ben Davies probably won't be in great shape, though. Neither have played in at least a fortnight, and that doesn't bode well for playing on Sunday.
The Toffees head into their last fixture of the season with injury doubts for Leighton Baines, Darron Gibson, Tony Hibbert, Bryan Oviedo and Steven Pienaar. Aaron Lennon is ineligible for this match since he was loaned by Tottenham to Everton.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"Always when you start with a new club and a new philosophy and a new group, it is not easy in the first season. We need to be more consistent next season and now as well. We need to work hard and try to create a strong group. Getting to Europa will help that." – Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino summing up this season for his Spurs
RECENT FORM
Everton has had some really favorable results down the stretch of the season, but it has had some horrid ones, too. Just in the last four weeks, the team has beaten Manchester United and West Ham, but it has lost to Aston Villa and Sunderland.
Tottenham snapped a two-game skid against Hull City last week, but the Spurs didn't play nearly as well as that result suggests. It was, however, the club's first victory in any match since April 19.
TALKING TOTALS
The common thread here in Everton's fixtures have been lots of goals. Four straight have either pushed or exceeded the total (3-0-1), and with the form Romelu Lukaku is in, we wouldn't bet against more goals for the hosts.
Overs and unders have been split over the course of the last month and a half for the Spurs. They're 4-4 in their last eight duels overall for total bettors.
ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION
There are two really great goal scorers in this match in Lukaku and Harry Kane, but clearly, one was in his best form early in the season, while the other has been on fire of late.
However, the more important factor to us is Tottenham and this Europa spot. Pochettino has been saying all the right things, but the fact of the matter is that he didn't care about playing in the Europa League this year, and he probably doesn't want to do so next year again either.
Dropping to seventh won't be a problem for Pochettino, though we would wonder whether there is a chance he could be sacked if that is how this plays out. Either way, we still think that Everton is clearly the right side on the last day of the season.
