It's going to be hot. It's going to be sticky. And it's going to be as hostile of an environment as the United States Men's National Team has seen in a long time on the road to the World Cup. After a shocking third loss in the Hexagonal to Costa Rica last Friday night, the Yanks are going to have to face Honduras and all of the elements that come with a trip to San Pedro Sula on Tuesday night with the dream of going to Russia in 2018 on the line.

Odds Analysis
When the Americans and Hondurans played against each other in the USA, the match was a no-contest. It was Bruce Arena's first major match back in charge of the USMNT, and it was a dream start with three goals on the board by halftime and three more within nine minutes of the start of the second half. The 6-0 win was one of the biggest you'll see at this level of CONCACAF qualifying, and at the moment, that goal differential is the only thing separating these two teams on the table.
The three top point-getters in the Hex will automatically reach the World Cup, while the fourth place finisher will face off with the fifth place finisher from Asia for one of the last spots in the field in Russia. Right now, the Americans are on eight points, the same as Honduras. Panama, currently in fifth, sits just a point back but should get all three at home against Trinidad & Tobago in a match to also be played on Tuesday night. In other words, if there's a loser of this game, that team is going to be in big, big trouble the rest of the way.
With the magnitude of this match, the Yanks are only +115 on the moneyline, perhaps a shockingly high number for a team that ran out to a 6-0 win just a few short months ago against this same team.
How They Got Here
Both of these teams are 2-2-3 in the Hex. For Honduras, that's considered a bit of a triumph. Los Catrachos own two wins over T&T and draws against Panama and Costa Rica. This, though, would easily be their biggest triumph.
For the Americans, sitting on just eight points is effectively a disaster. The team started off its qualifying campaign by losing 2-1 at home against Mexico, then getting smashed 4-0 by Costa Rica. Things looked a lot better when the Yanks took care of business against Honduras and Trinidad at home and mixed in draws at Panama and Mexico. Yet now, a 2-0 loss at home to Costa Rica essentially made the path to the World Cup incredibly long and winding. By now, this team really should already be qualified.

The Americans are really going to be up against it in this one. The magnitude of the match against Costa Rica really set in, especially for a defense that is missing both John Brooks and DeAndre Yedlin. There is no legitimate left back on this team, and the central defense has been a nightmare for years.
Honduras never really had a shot to play bright soccer against the Americans in San Jose, but this will be its chance to try to get Romell Quioto and Carlo Costly in on the action.
This is a dangerous matchup for the Americans, and if they happen to get out of town with a draw, they should consider themselves fortunate even though that would drop them down to fourth in the Hex almost for sure with just two very big matches against Panama and T&T left to play.
