Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal remain on course to meet in the final of the Australian Open. Federer has yet to be tested but that should change this week, as he will face Tomas Berdych or Fabio Fognini in the quarterfinals and then possibly Novak Djokovic in the semifinals. Nadal is already through to the quarterfinals where he will face Marin Cilic. Let’s look at the updated Australian Open odds heading into the second week of action and also take a brief look at the women’s side.

Potential Matchups
Federer and Nadal are still very much on course to meet in the final on Sunday. Nadal is already through to the last eight where he will take on Marin Cilic. This is a good matchup for Nadal, as he has won five of the previous six meetings against Cilic. The other quarterfinal matchup in the top half of the draw has Dimitrov taking on Edmund. This should be a win for Dimitrov, as he has won their previous two meetings. If things go as expected, it would be Nadal vs. Dimitrov in the semifinals. Nadal has won 10 of their 11 previous meetings.
In the bottom half of the draw they are just in the Round of 16. It will be Thiem vs. Sandgren, Djokovic vs. Chung, Fognini vs. Berdych and Federer vs. Fucsovics. Thiem and Sangren have never met, Djokovic won the only previous meeting vs. Chung, Fognini and Berdych have split their previous four meetings, while Federer and Fucsovics have never played.
Djokovic has won five of the previous six meetings against Thiem, while Federer is 19-6 against Berdych and 3-0 against Fognini. Djokovic is 23-22 in the 45 career meetings against Federer. Looking farther ahead it could be Nadal vs. Federer in the final and if that is the case you have to give Federer the edge. Nadal is 23-15 against Federer overall, but Federer has won their last five meetings and would likely be favored in the final.
Women’s Update
On the women’s side it is wide open, as six players are listed with odds of less than +1000. Angelique Kerber is +300, Elina Svitolina +333, Caroline Wozniacki +450, Karolina Pliskova +450, Madison Keys +800 and Simona Halep +800. Kerber faces Hsieh in the round of 16 and then the winner of Keys and Garcia in the quarterfinals. Svitolina will face Mertens in the quarterfinals. Wozniacki takes on Navarro in the quarterfinals, while Pliskova faces Strycova in the round of 16 and possibly Halep in the quarterfinals.
It could be Halep vs. Pliskova in the quarterfinals with the winner possibly facing Kerber in the semifinals while Svitolina should be up against Wozniacki in the semifinals. Halep is 5-2 in her career against Pliskova, while Svitolina has won three of the previous four matches against Wozniacki.

Not much has changed on the men’s side, as both Federer and Nadal are still alive and on track to meet in the final. There is not much value in taking either of them at their current odds. Dimitrov has the most value, but he has lost 10 of his previous 11 meetings against Nadal.
The women’s side is really wide open, but there still may be some value on Kerber, as her path to the final appears to be the easiest of the top contenders. Kerber is listed at +300 and her main obstacle to the final would appear to be Halep. The bottom half of the draw is much tougher to predict, as it looks like Svitolina going up against Wozniacki in a potential semifinal matchup. The problem with taking either of those two players is that they simply don’t have a ton of value at their current odds.
