At the outset of Wimbledon this year, bettors and tennis fans alike had to be smiling at the prospects of seeing the man with the most Wimbledon titles, Roger Federer against the best tennis player in the world at the moment, Novak Djokovic in the final. That's exactly how the bracket has played out, as No. 1 will play No. 2 on Sunday at the All-England Club.
ODDS ANALYSIS
You're not going to see that many opportunities to bet on Djokovic as a -150 favorite at this point in his career. The Djoker has been favored by massive margins all throughout this tournament, but this is clearly the exception to the rule.
By all means, it should be noted that there isn't a situation in the world on any surface against any player in which Djokovic wouldn't be favored, but at least there is some precedent here.
Federer on grass isn't exactly Rafael Nadal on clay, but it's pretty darn close.
Djokovic is favored by a set and a half on the tennis odds as well but at +160 odds.
HEAD TO HEAD
These two men have played against each other 39 times in their illustrious careers, and the results couldn't be closer. Federer has the very slight 20-19 lead, but obviously, as time has gone by, Djokovic has won more and more often.
These matches virtually always tend to be close as well. In fact, the last 14 sets these two have played against each other have been decided either by one break or by a tiebreaker.
In 2015, Djokovic has a 2-1 lead in three matches against Federer. These two did meet in the Wimbledon final last year as well with Djokovic winning in five thrilling sets.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"I expected four or five sets. I played so well on the biggest occasion today. My serve was good again against one of the best returners. I kept the pressure up and was able to mix it up. It worked out well." – Roger Federer following his straight sets victory over Andy Murray in Friday's semifinal
ANALYSIS & PREDICTION
If Federer serves like he did against Murray, he isn't going to be beaten in this match. The No. 2 ranked player in the world had just one double fault against 20 aces in the three-set match, which was easily the most aces per set he has had in a match all year long.
However, keep in mind that Federer had more aces in that match against Murray than in his previous two matches combined here at Wimbledon.
Djokovic is still flat out the best. Take away those first two sets against Kevin Anderson when things just weren't going right for him, and you've got a man who is 18-0 in sets in this tournament.
It should also be noted that Djokovic has been practically perfect on his serve throughout this tournament. Granted, Federer is one of the truly elite returners, particularly on grass, of our generation, but history will tell you that Djokovic's serve is better than Federer's return game.
This price on Djokovic is literally just too good to pass up on. We'll play on the No. 1 player in the world at -150 against anyone, anywhere.
Novak Djokovic 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5
