Clearly, there are just two players in this field which have any realistic chance of winning the French Open. Novak Djokovic is the odds-on favorite literally everywhere he goes at this point in his career, while Rafael Nadal, the king of the clay courts, is just behind him at a price of 3 to 1.
As long as these two aren't drawn on the same side of the bracket, it would be shocking if they didn't mean in the finale.
What's really most shocking about the men's French Open odds is that Roger Federer is 22 to 1 and is now behind not just his countryman, Stan Wawrinka, but also Kei Nishikori, a man who excels on hard courts, not on clay.
It's a testament to the fact that Federer really is finished winning Grand Slam titles. He's still best on grass courts at this point in his career, and clay has never been his thing and never will be. Federer did reach the quarterfinals of this event last year, but he was embarrassed by Wawrinka 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4). Of course, Wawrinka did go on to win the event in four sets over Djokovic, but a lot of that result was thanks to the fact that Djokovic was pushed to five sets by Andy Murray a couple days prior.

It's actually a little stunning that the oddsmakers never caught on to the dominance of Serena Williams the way they caught on to Djokovic before he really became the most dominating player on the face of the earth. Williams won this event last year, though she was pushed to three sets on five different occasions.
Williams though, was beaten in the first major of this year in the finale, as she dropped the Australia Open to Angelique Kerber 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. Kerber would be a popular choice to win the French Open for sure if not for the fact that her form of late hasn't been good at all since capturing her first ever major.
Instead, there will be a few other women who have never won Grand Slam events who could be on the radar at Roland Garros. Garbine Muguruza has really come on strong in recent years, and she should do much better on her preferred clay surface than she did when she was knocked out in the third round at the Aussie Open earlier this year.
Simona Halep was a finalist in this tournament two years ago, and she too prefers playing on the slower surfaces. She won the Madrid Open and is back in the Top 5 in the world, and she'll surely be a name for sharps to watch going forward in Paris.
