The top two players in the world, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, lead the field for the Rolex Paris Masters which begins on Monday. Top Contenders
This event should be all about Nadal and Federer, as Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Stan Wawrinka are not participating. Nadal is returning to action after dealing with some knee soreness, while Federer won last week in Switzerland. Federer could move past Nadal in the race for the No. 1 ranking if he wins this week in Paris and next week in London.

Matchups to Watch
There is no question that Nadal vs. Federer is the key matchup to watch, but the race for the last couple of spots at the ATP Finals in London is in the spotlight as well. In the top half of the draw it could be Pablo Carreno Busta taking on Sam Querrey, and Querrey is just 80 points behind Carreno Busta for the No. 11 spot. It would be the first-ever meeting between the two players.
Juan Martin del Potro has been moving up quickly in the race for the last spot in London. He played well in Basel last week before falling in the final to Federer. Del Potro will play the winner of Sousa and Lorenzi in his opening match and he could be up against Zverev in the third round. Del Potro won their only previous meeting earlier this year against Zverev.
If it ends up being Nadal vs. Federer in the final, then the edge would have to go to Federer. He is playing at a very high level right now and he has won each of their last five meetings.
Event Notes
A number of top players withdrew from this event. Four-time winner Novak Djokovic and defending champion Andy Murray will not play. Other players of note who will not be in action include Tomas Berdych, Fabio Fognini, Nick Kyrgios, Philipp Kohlschreiber, Gael Monfils, Gilles Muller, Kei Nishikori, Milos Raonic and Stan Wawrinka. It has been either Djokovic or Murray winning this title in the last four years.
Tennis Picks
As I said last week about the event in Switzerland, I see no reason to go against Federer. I did give del Potro a chance last week and he made the final. I think it could be a similar outcome in Paris, although the path for del Potro to the final is much tougher this week, but at least he is on the opposite side of the draw to Federer.
