Roberto Bautista Agut and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga are co-favorites to win the St. Petersburg Open which runs from Monday, September 18 through Sunday, September 24. They are the top two seeds in this event and the clear betting favorites at odds of +350. Only one other player, Philipp Kohlschreiber, is listed with odds of less than +1400, as Kohlschreiber is listed at +700. The top four seeds, Agut, Tsonga, Fabio Fognini and Adrian Mannarino have byes into the second round. Let’s look at this event, tennis odds and tennis picks.

Top Contenders
Roberto Bautista Agut is the top seed and he has a very favorable draw, as it is hard see him losing to Viktor Troicki, Andrey Kuznetsov, Dusan Lajovic, Guido Pella or Jiri Vesely. Agut should definitely reach the semifinals where he would go against Fognini or perhaps Kohlschreiber.
The path for Tsonga is tougher, as he could face Paolo Lorenzi, who played well in New York, Adrian Mannarino, Jan-Lennard Struff and two other dangerous players in Boma Coric and Daniil Medvedev.
Seeds
1. Roberto Bautista Agut
2. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga
3. Fabio Fognini
4. Adrian Mannarino
5. Philipp Kohlschreiber
6. Paolo Lorenzi
7. Viktor Troicki
8. Jan-Lennard Struff
Matchups to Watch
The best of the first round matches looks to be the one between Struff and Coric. They are each considered real darkhorse contenders at odds of +1400. The winner of that match could end up going against Daniil Medvedev in the second round. It is unfortunate that the draw has worked out this way because Struff, Coric and Medvedev are definite darkhorse contenders to win this tournament but two of the three players will be gone after the second round.
If you think a Russian player can do well in front of his home fans then Kuzentsov would be the logical choice. The problem with taking him is that he goes up against Viktor Troicki in the first round. Troicki has won two of their three career meetings, but Kuzentsov did win their most recent match at the Madrid Masters last year. Kuzentsov said on the St. Petersburg Open site that he has a tough draw. “Yeah, I don’t think I have had the best draw. Troicki is a very good player. But still I have my chances. I remember how I beat him, I will watch these matches and find out what tactics worked well. I believe in myself and I hope I will manage to win.”
Looking ahead, if it is Agut vs. Fognini in the semifinals, Fognini has won six of the eight all-time meetings. If the seeds hold true, which is definitely questionable, it would be Agut vs. Tsonga in the final. Agut has won three of the five career meetings against Tsonga.
Event Notes
This event is an ATP World Tour 250 event that takes place at Sibur Arena in St. Petersburg, Russia. Three different Russian players have won this event, Yevgeny Kafelnikov in 1995, Marat Safin in 2000 and Mikhail Youzhny in 2004. The last two winners of his event were Milos Raonic in 2015 and Alexander Zverev last year.
Tennis Picks
There is no value on taking either Agut or Tsonga, as they are completely overvalued at odds of +350. I think there is far more value on Fognini at odds of +1600 and I like Medvedev at odds of +1400.
