As is the case with the women?s singles championship at the 2024 US Open, the men?s side is even with several realistic choices. Recently, the dominance of Novak Djokovic has waned. Although Djokovic remains near the top of the Association of Tennis Professionals rankings, there is a new generation of players who are catching up and ready to take the mantle away from the man many consider the GOAT of the sport. One of those new emerging stars is Carlos Alcaraz, who opened as the favorite to win the 2024 US Open. Other popular choices include Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev.

2024 US Open Men?s Singles Overview

Since Novak Djokovic won in 2018, there have been five different individual winners on the men?s side of the US Open. Last year, Djokovic won for the first time in five years. Of course, Djokovic is best known for the 2021 US Open, which he did not win when Daniil Medvedev spoiled his bid to win a calendar-year Grand Slam.

Bill Tilden, William Larned, and Richard Sears are the all-time US Open champions. Each has seven wins, but that was during the Amateur era of the late 1880s and early 1900s.

In the Open era, Pete Sampras, Jimmy Connors, and Roger Federer lead with five career wins each. Rafael Nadal, Noak Djokovic, and John McEnroe are next with four wins.

Carlos Alcaraz +137

Carlos Alcaraz, 21, is third on the ATP charts. In 2024, he has three wins and a record of 38-7. Alcaraz is from Spain. He already has career Grand Slam wins at the 2024 French Open, 2023 and 2024 Wimbledon Championships, and the 2022 US Open.

Novak Djokovic +187

Novak Djokovic, 37, is from Serbia and ranks second on the ATP charts. This year, he has one title and a record of 29-7. Overall, Djokovic has a stunning ten Australian Open, three French Open, seven Wimbledon, and four US Open championships. His last Grand Slam win was the 2023 US Open. Regardless of Djokovic winning at a slower rate, he will attract considerable casual money to the betting window, raising his price and decreasing his value.

Jannik Sinner +225

At the top of the ATP charts is Jannik Sinner, 22, who was born in Italy but resides in Monte Carlo. This year marked Sinner's first Grand Slam win at the Australian Open. In 2024, Sinner has four titles and a record of 42-4?gamblers like Sinner's youth and upside.

Daniil Medvedev +500

Daniil Medvedev, 28, hails from Moscow, Russia. In 2024 he has no wins and a 35-11 record. Medvedev may have peaked with his upset win over Djokovic at the 2021 US Open, the only Grand Slam victory of his career. He is 5th on the ATP charts. Gamblers are becoming disenchanted with Medvedev, who was seen as potentially ready to take off after his epic win over Djokovic.

2024 US Open Men?s Singles Bookmaker Free Pick

In this situation, Carlos Alcaraz offers the most ability, albeit at a more expensive price. Alcaraz is a case of paying for quality. As appealing as Djokovic?s career resume is, Father Time, who is undefeated, is catching up to the GOAT.

Bookmaker Best Bet: Carlos Alcaraz

Carlos Alcaraz won his first Wimbledon title besting the betting favorite in five sets. At the time Alcaraz was ranked No. 1 in the world by ATP, so I guess it wasn?t a complete shock. Now in his late 30s time is running out on Djokovic to match Roger Federer for most Wimbledon singles titles and as the tournament nears we still don?t know if Djokovic is going to play due to a knee injury that forced him to withdraw from the French Open last month.

Djokovic sustained a torn meniscus in his right knee shelving him in the fourth round at Roland Garros. He underwent surgery shortly after that and it?s now a race against time whether he?ll be fit enough to play. Despite not knowing his status, early betting lines had Djokovic listed as the third favorite behind Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, who opened as co-favorites. There is a significant drop in odds after the top three with Alexander Zverev the fourth favorite listed at +1400. You have to think if Djokovic plays he?ll be ready. The No. 2 ranked player in the world recently said, ?If I know I can play close to my maximum or at maximum, then I?ll play. If not, then I?ll give somebody else a chance to play.?

Tennis Betting Odds

The 2024 Wimbledon Championship run from July 3-16 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. If he does compete it would be hard not to back Djokovic, though, especially considering his domination on grass where he?s won nearly 86 percent of his matches. That didn?t help him last year, though, when Djokovic lost a five-set thriller to Alcaraz.

There is a concern about Djokovic?s recent play as well with Father Time perhaps catching up with him. In seven tournaments this year he?s yet to reach a final falling in the round of 32 twice. He also lost in four sets to Jannik Sinner in the semifinals of the Australian Open. Sinner went on to defeat Daniil Medvedev for the title in Melbourne rallying to win the final three sets.

With a record of 38-3 and wins in Rotterdam, Miami and Germany along with the Australian Open, Sinner elevated to the No. 1 spot in the ATP rankings. However, two of those losses were against Alcaraz in the semifinals at Roland Garros and Indian Wells. I?d have a much easier time backing Sinner if he had just an iota of success against Alcaraz, but his losing career record of 4-5 gives me some concern.

With early odds of +6600 Casper Ruud is an intriguing candidate. He?s reached the semifinals in seven tournaments this year with wins in Geneva and Barcelona while going 39-10. He?s yet to win a Grand Slam event and hasn?t had much success at Wimbledon failing to advance past the second round in his last four tries.

Wimbledon Championship Picks

I?d like to think Djokovic still has something in the tank and you know he?s going all out if he can play. However, signs are there that the game has deteriorated with his age. Of course he?s been the best in the world for some time so the dropoff isn?t as significant as you might think. Alcaraz is another solid choice after winning the French Open in early June. However, a loss at the Queens to Jack Draper in the second round is concerning. It?s hard to imaging one of the top three not winning and my money is on Sinner for his first Grand Slam title.

BookMaker offers play-by-play betting odds for live sporting events every day!
The first thing for gamblers to know about the women?s side of the 2024 US Open is that parity is the name of the game. Gone are the days of dominance by such players as Serena Williams. Instead, there is a revolving door of champions. As a result of this parity on the women?s side, there is an increased handicapping challenge for gamblers in assessing the value of each player and their chances to win. Offsetting the challenge is an opportunity for gamblers to find the normally elusive combination of value and ability. Last year, Coco Gauff was a great example of both of those traits by winning the US Open.

2024 US Open Women?s Singles Overview

Aryna Sabalenka +300

Aryna Sabalenka is third on the Women?s Tennis Association rankings. She has won Grand Slam tournaments at the Australian Open (2023 & 2024) and was a finalist at the 2023 US Open. In 2024, Sabalenka has one singles title and a record of 32-10. Sabalenka, age 26, is from Minsk, Belarus. Previously this season, Sabalenka lost the quarterfinals at the French Open at Roland Garros. She defeated Qinwen Zheng at the Australian Open.

Iga Swiatek +300

Iga Switek, age 23, hails from Warsaw, Poland. In 2024, Swiatek has five wins and a record of 47-5. Swiatek recently won the bronze medal at the Paris Olympics against Anna Karolina Schmiedlvoa after losing to Qinwen Zheng in the semifinals. At Wimbledon, Swiatek disappointed gamblers with a 3rd round loss to Yulia Putintseva. At the French Open, Swiatek defeated Jasmine Paolini to win the title. But at the Australian Open, she lost in the 3rd round to Linda Noskova.

Swiatek has Gand Slam titles at the French Open (2020, 2022, 2023, 2024) and the US Open (2022). Switek is first on the WTA rankings.

Elena Rybakina +700

Elena Rybakina, age 25, is from Moscow, Russia. In 2024, Rybakina has three wins and a record of 40-8. This year at Wimbledon, Rybakina lost in the semifinals to Barbora Krejcikova. At Roland Garros in the French Open, Rybakina lost in the quarterfinals to Jasmine Paolini. While at the Australian Open, Rybakina lost in the 2nd round to Anna Blinkova. Her only career Grand Slam title was at Wimbledon in 2022. Rybakina is 4th on the WTA rankings.

Coco Gauff +850

Last year will be remembered as Coco Gauff?s coming out party when she won the US Open. Gauff, age 20, is from Delray Beach, FL. In 2024, Gauff has one win and a record of 35-11. Gauff is second on the WTA rankings. She lost in the 3rd round of the Paris Olympics. Previously at Wimbledon, Gauff lost in the 4th round to Emma Navarro. At Roland Garros in the French Open, Gauff lost in the semifinals to Iga Swiatek. While at the Australian Open, Gauff lost in the semifinals to Aryna Sabalenka.

Naomi Osaka +1000

So far in 2024, Naomi Osaka ranks 90th on the WTA charts. Her record this year is 16-13 with no wins. Osaka, age 26, is from Osaka, Japan. Osaka has Grand Slam wins at the Australian Open (2019 & 2021) and the US Open (2018 and 2020).

World No. 1 Iga Swiatek, however, is not the favorite ceding that spot to Aryna Sabalenka. And to prove the point that the draw is open one look no further than defending champion Marketa Vondrousova, who was ranked No. 40 ahead of last year?s tournament. The first unseeded winner on the Ladies side at Wimbledon, Vondrousova went off at 80/1 for her first Grand Slam title. Last year?s win and a strong season so far has moved Vondrousova to No. 6 in the rankings and she?s the sixth favorite on the early line.

Starting with Serena Williams? win in 2016 there have been seven different winners in the last seven tournaments. The 2020 event was cancelled due to COVID. And the likelihood of that trend continuing is strong with the top two favorites Sabalenka and Swiatek looking for their first win at the All England Club. Listed on the early line at +600, Coco Gauff is looking for her first Wimbledon title and second Grand Slam championship.

Tennis Betting Odds

The 2024 Wimbledon Championship run from July 1-14 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. She reached her second straight final last year falling in straight sets to Vondrousova. She lost the 2023 Ladies singles title to Rybakina in three sets after winning the first. It?s been a struggle so far this season for the No. 10 ranked player, though. Jabeur is just 14-12 this year with three losses to Coco Gauff.

Coming in as the betting favorite last year, Swiatek was hoping to overcome her issues on grass. She succeeded, somewhat. While she didn?t win, the WTA?s top ranked player had her best finish at Wimbledon advancing to the quarterfinals before losing to Elina Svitolina in three sets. Last year she nearly doubled her number of match wins going 4-1 to improve to 9-4 at the All England Club. By comparison Swiatek is 35-2 on the clay at Roland Garros winning her third straight French Open in June.

Sabalenka has enjoyed more success on grass than Swiatek and also has a Grand Slam win taking the Australian Open without losing a set in January. Sabalenka beat Qinwen Zheng 3 and 2 for her second straight win in Melbourne. She?s also reached the semifinals at Wimbledon in her last two starts falling in three sets to Karolina Pliskova in 2021 and Ons Jabeur in 2023. In both matches Sabalenka won the first set.

Considering what happened last year and the struggles of several favorites on grass, glancing down the odds board could lead to a nice payday. Ranked No. 5 by the WTA, Jessica Pegula was in danger of falling behind the top four until a win in Germany in June, which, by the way, came on grass. Pegula beat Gauff in straight sets in the semis before taking out Anna Kalinskaya. In Mexico late last year Pegula took out Rybakina, Sabalenka and Gauff in straight sets before losing to Swiatek in the final.

Wimbledon Championship Picks

Vondrousova came out of nowhere to win last year, but we typically see the top ranked players battling it out. Pegula is in good form heading in, but here game has always been too inconsistent. I like the fact that Swiatek made strides last year seemingly overcoming here issues on grass and she has dominated Sabalenka in their head-to-head meetings if it comes down to that. Still, after so many issues at Wimbledon it?s time for Swiatek to show why she?s ranked No. 1.

BookMaker offers play-by-play betting odds for live sporting events every day!
