The Bachelor Season 24
The 24th season of The Bachelor premiered on January 6, 2020. It features Peter Weber who is a 28-year old Delta Airlines pilot. Weber finished in third place on the 15th season of the Bachelorette that featured Hannah Brown. The list of contestants for Season 24 includes five beauty queens, Hannah Ann Sluss, Alayah Benavidez, Victoria Paul, Kelsey Weier and Maurissa Gunn. Another well known contestant is Madison Prewett who is the daughter of Auburn men’s basketball assistant coach Chad Prewett. The 24th season of The Bachelor will include filming in Cleveland, Ohio, Costa Rica, Chile and Peru.
Format and Setting
The first two weeks of filming for The Bachelor take place at Villa De La Vina in Agoura Hills, California. It is a six-bedroom, nine bathroom home that is 7,590 square feet and located on 10 acres. The home has a price tag of nearly $9 million dollars.
The first two-thirds of the episodes take place at the estate while the final third of the episodes are filmed around the world. The show has seen numerous locations in the U.S., Canada, New Zealand, England, and other countries. It should be noted that the Agoura Hills locale was not used in seasons eight and nine when the show was filmed in Paris and Rome.
The Bachelor begins with the one man interacting with the other women and he begins by presenting a rose to any woman he wants to stay on the show. The women who do not receive a rose are eliminated. The eliminations are based simply on the bachelor’s preference. He makes his judgments based on interactions at the group date and sometimes that group date involves a competition with winners getting to spend more time with the bachelor.
There are also one-on-one dates when the bachelor goes on a date with one woman and there are two-on-one dates where the bachelor goes on a date with two women. Every episode concludes with a rose ceremony. The final episodes of each season have the bachelor visiting the home towns and families of the final four women and the bachelor has a series of one-on-one dates with each of the women. The elimination process gets down to the final three women and then they travel to an exotic location and there are once again one-on-one dates. There is also a “The Women Tell All” episode in which the eliminated women can share their thoughts.
The elimination process does get down to the final two and each of the two women meet the bachelor’s family. The bachelor eventually proposes with his “final rose” to the woman he chooses. There is also an “After the Final Rose” episode in which the bachelor, winner and runner-up discuss the show and the identity of next season’s bachelor or bachelorette is announced.
The show has seen some interesting twists in its nearly two decades. In Season six the producers couldn’t decide between Byron Velvick and Jay Overbye as the next Bachelor, so the 25 women chose and at the end of the first episode they chose Velvick.
In season 11 it was a mess, as bachelor Brad Womack didn’t select either of his two final women. In season 13 it was Jason Mesnick who later proposed to the runner-up of the show and those two are now married. The same thing happened with Arie Luyendyk Jr. who broke off his engagement and proposed and then married the runner-up in Season 22.
It should be noted that in the 23 seasons of the Bachelor, only once twice did the bachelor actually marry the first person he chose. That happened in Season 17 when Sean Lowe married Catherine Giudici. They married early in 2014 and they now have two children together. It also happened in Season 23 when Colton Underwood married Cassie Randolph.
Jason Mesnick did marry runner-up Molly Malaney after Season 13 and they have a daughter who was born in 2013. Arie Luyendyk Jr. married runner-up Lauren Burnham in January of 2019 and they were expecting their first child.
The most popular of the spin-offs of The Bachelor is The Bachelorette, as it had its first show in 2003 and will have its 16th season in 2020.
