MAYER EDGES FERRER TO WIN FIRST TITLE

World No. 46 Leonardo Mayer captured his first ATP World Tour title on Sunday as he held his nerve to edge top seed David Ferrer 6-7(3), 6-1, 7-6(4) in the final of the bet-at-home Open in Hamburg.

The Argentine is the fourth first-time singles winner on the ATP World Tour this year, following in the footsteps of Federico Delbonis (Sao Paulo), Roberto Bautista Agut (s-Hertogenbosch) and Pablo Cuevas (Bastad).

Mayer earned 500 Emirates ATP Rankings points and €272,300 in prize money after becoming the lowest-ranked winner of an ATP World Tour 500 tournament since No. 54 Radek Stepanek won the Citi Open in Washington in 2011.

2013 bet-at-home Open - FOGNINI SAVES 3 M.P. IN HAMBURG FOR SECOND TITLE IN AS MANY WEEKS

Fabio Fognini won his second ATP World Tour title in as many weeks on Sunday.

Second seed Fognini saved three match points in the second set tie-break to beat qualifier Federico Delbonis 4-6, 7-6(8), 6-2 in the bet-at-home Open-German Tennis Championships final.

Fognini received €251,200 in prize money and 500 Emirates ATP Ranking points. Seven days ago, he captured the MercedesCup trophy in Stuttgart (d. Kohlschreiber).

Delbonis proved nerveless in the early stages of his first ATP World Tour final. He saved all five break points he faced, before he converted his first opportunity in the 10th game to clinch the 49-minute opener.

In-form Fognini broke serve in the first game of the second set. Delbonis, 22, responded by winning four straight games to take a 4-1 lead.

As Roger Federer's conqueror moved closer to victory, nerves set in and Fognini got back to 4-4. In a tense tie-break that went with serve to 5-5, Delbonis squandered three match points at 6-5, 7-6 and 8-7. Arguably his best opportunity to win had come at 6-5, when Delbonis served out wide only miss a volley at the net.

Fognini grew in confidence and could have taken a 4-0 lead in the decider. The World No. 25 served for his 30th match win of the season at 5-1, but Delbonis broke serve to 30. Fognini broke serve for the fifth time to complete victory in two hours and 28 minutes.

2012 bet-at-home Open - German Tennis Championships Winner - Juan Monaco topples Tommy Haas to grab the title

Argentina's Juan Monaco captured his third tour level title of the season by beating the home favourite, Tommy Haas of Germany, in straight sets 7-5, 6-4 in the Bet-at-home Open final on Sunday.

This event is also called the German Tennis Championships, being held on the clay courts of Rothenbaum in Hamburg.

With the first ATP World Tour 500 win of his career, Monaco will also break into the Top-10 rankings. He will join his countryman, Juan Martin Del Potro, in the elite group of players.

Backed by his home crowd, Haas made a splendid start in the final, as he stung a break in the fourth game and consolidated on it to gain a 4-1 lead. However, Monaco made a fine comeback later on, capturing six of the following seven to seal it 7-5.

The start of the second set was a bit similar to the opener, as Haas grabbed the initial breakthrough to move ahead 2-0. Though, Monaco also replied in the same manner, striking back immediately and levelling the proceedings at 2-2. Haas and Monaco traded a blow in the subsequent four games to take it to 4-4. The Argentinean managed to clinch decisive break in the ninth and made the most of it to win 6-4.

Monaco's performance on serve was not that brilliant, as he hit a single ace and committed two double faults. The Argentinean maintained a first serve percentage of 80, managing to convert just 38 of the 60 of them into points. Nevertheless, the 28-year-old was the better player on key points, as he saved five of the eight break threats he came across and utilised five of the nine opportunities he created.
