2014 BNP Paribas Masters 1000 Results - Novak Djokovic wins singles in BNP Paribas Masters
Djokovic defeated Raonic 6-2, 6-3 to win his third Masters title in Paris and 20th Masters title overall.
Djokovic landed some extraordinary returns off Raonic’s booming delivery to break in the Canadian’s first service game and lead 2-0 in the first set. After six minutes, Djokovic led 2-0 and 30-0 as he landed a clean backhand down the line winner and it looked like it was going to be a short and unpleasant afternoon for Raonic.
Raonic did manage to make it closer than the scoreline appeared as he saved break point at 0-3 with big serving and started to play some great tennis on Djokovic’s serve at 3-1, landing a backhand down the line of his own to get to 0-30, then a clean return winner to set up break point at 30-40. The Washington D.C. champion missed a makeable inside-out forehand wide and saw his chance slip by as Djokovic held, but dug himself out of a 0-40 hole on his serve at 1-4 to keep the deficit to one break.
Three break points on Djokovic’s serve at 4-2 followed as Raonic played some great points from the baseline, but the world no. 1 was serving impeccably when he needed it and fended off all three to put himself one game from the set.
Djokovic extended his unbeaten streak indoors to 27 matches with the victory, the 600th of his career, joining Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Lleyton Hewitt and David Ferrer among active players to have recorded 600 or more wins.
Bob Bryan Mike Bryan win doubles in BNP Paribas Masters
The Americans ranked No. 1 in the world were given all they could handle against the newly-formed team of Marcin Matkowski and Jurgen Melzer, the top seeds emerging victorious in a match-tiebreak, 7-6(5), 5-7, 10-6.
It’s their fourth BNP Paribas Masters title and second straight in Bercy, as well as their 32nd Masters 1000 triumph. In 2014, the brothers have won nine titles overall, including their 16th Grand Slam at the US Open, which almost marked their 100th.
Matkowski/Melzer broke Mike’s serve out of the gate, taking a 1-0 lead in the first set only to be broken back in game four. The brothers won the first set on one of the best points of the match, a long exchange where Melzer eventually missed a volley long.
In set two there were no breaks before the final game, Melzer hitting a down-the-middle passing shot to gain set point, breaking the Bryans at love to force a decider.
But in the match tie-break the Americans were too strong: They leapt to a 7-4 lead before closing out the win at 10-6, launching into their signature chest bump in celebration.
