2013 Davis Cup Semifinals Results

USA vs Spain - US bows to Spain in Davis Cup semifinals

John Isner and the US Davis Cup team saw firsthand that Spain's dominance isn't limited to Rafael Nadal.

David Ferrer beat Isner, 6-7 (3-7), 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 on Sunday to give the five-time champions an insurmountable 3-1 lead and a shot at a fourth title in five years. They'll face the Czech Republic on the road in November's final following the Czechs' 3-2 semifinal victory over host Argentina in Buenos Aires.

Helped by Isner's 70 unforced errors, the fifth-ranked Ferrer rallied to stay unbeaten on clay in the competition with his 16th straight win.

Isner was left slamming his racket in frustration.

Ferrer and Nadal had both said they would scale back Davis Cup availability after helping clinch last year's final title against Argentina. While Nadal has since been limited by injury, Ferrer decided to return to make this his team now.

Spain stretched its record home winning streak to 24, and it hasn't lost on clay for 26 series. Its last clay loss was in 1999. And like in 2008, it did it without Nadal.

Czech Republic Vs. Argentina - Berdych Defeats Berlocq

Despite being faced with having to play Argentina on their home clay in Buenos Aires, the Czech Republic — behind a strong showing from Tomas Berdych — advanced to the finals of the Davis Cup with Berdych's straight-set victory over Carlos Berlocq, 6-3, 6-3, 6-4.

The Czech will take on Spain in the Davis Cup finals, after the Spanish defeated the United States in the other semifinal, 3-1 behind David Ferrer. The Czech clinched the victory over Argentina, up 3-1 with one match remaining.

In his first singles action, Berdych outlasted Argentina's Juan Monaco in five grueling sets, 6-1, 4-6, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4. The match, which took just more than four hours, saw Berdych break Monaco 11 times, fighting off Monaco's 10 own break points converted.

In the decisive match against Berlocq, Berdych was far more efficient, dispatching of the Argentinean in 2 hours, 45 minutes, while hitting 34 winners against just six unforced errors.

In the doubles match, Berdych and Radek Stepanek topped Berlocq and Eduardo Schwank, 6-3, 6-4, 6-3.
