2014 Erste Bank Open - Andy Murray beats David Ferrer in three sets to win the Erste Bank Open

Andy Murray won his second title in three weeks after rallying to defeat David Ferrer 5-7, 6-2, 7-5 at the Erste Bank Open.

Murray came back from 5-3 down in the final set, ending the match with his ninth ace. The 11th-ranked Scot, who improved to 30-14 in career finals, also won in Shenzhen late September to end a 14-month title drought.

Murray became only the fifth still active player with 30 or more titles alongside Roger Federer (81), Rafael Nadal (64), Novak Djokovic (46) and Lleyton Hewitt (30).

This result landed Murray his second title of the season, less than a month after he had triumphed in Shenzhen to end a 14-month drought dating back to last year’s Wimbledon. It also shunted him back above Ferrer and into eighth place in the Race to London. Competition for a place in the season-ending tournament is the closest and most intense that it has been since the World Tour Finals relocated to the O2Arena in 2009.

Tommy Haas defeats Robin Haase in Erste Bank Open final in Vienna

Former World no. 2 Tommy Haas (Player Bio) confirmed his good performances in Vienna this week by prevailing over Robin Haase (Player Bio) in the Erste Bank Open 2013 final. The top seed German got his hands on the second trophy of the year after winning the Munich tournament in May and remained in the contest for the London finals by gaining 250 ATP Rankings points.

Canada's Daniel Nestor loses doubles final in Vienna

Canadian Daniel Nestor suffered disappointment in only his third doubles final of the season as he and first-time partner Julian Knowle of Austria lost 7-5, 6-4 to Romanian Florin Mergea and Czech Lukas Rosol at the Erste Bank Open on Sunday.

The defeat added more misery to what has been a dismal season by the Toronto product's world-class standards. The 41-year-old teamed with Knowle, a 2007 U.S. Open doubles winner, after Austrian Jurgen Melzer had to withdraw with a shoulder injury.

Third seeds Nestor and Knowle let a 5-2 lead slip in the first set and were unable to recover as their opponents built momentum to conclude the upset win.

2012 Erste Bank Open Winner - Top-seeded Juan Martin del Potro wins Erste Bank Open

Top-seeded Juan Martin del Potro won his 12th career title Sunday by defeating qualifier Grega Zemlja of Slovenia 7-5, 6-3 at the Erste Bank Open.

It's only the second indoor title for the Argentine, who was playing his first event since returning from a right wrist injury that sidelined him for more than a month.

"It's been a fantastic week," the eighth-ranked Del Potro said. "Coming back to the tour and being seeded No. 1 put me under pressure. I am so happy now. Winning a tournament means a lot. It's important to have a good end to the year."

The victory makes Del Potro, who improved to 12-5 in finals, a strong favourite to pick up one of the remaining berths at the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals.

"That was on my mind coming here," he said. "I am looking even better now ... but I still have two big tournaments and must do well in Basel and Paris."

A losing finalist last year, Del Potro survived a shaky start against the 70th-ranked Zemlja, who was the first player from Slovenia to reach a final after upsetting Janko Tipsarevic in the semifinals.

At 2-2 in the opening set, Del Potro lost serve for the first time in the tournament. But from 2-4 down, he won 11 of the next 15 games to close out the victory.
