Federer tops Falla for seventh Gerry Weber Open title
Roger Federer delivered a statement of intent for Wimbledon on Sunday by winning the grass-court Gerry Weber Open for the seventh time.
Federer fired five aces and saved three of the five break points he faced to defeat Alejandro Falla 7-6 (2), 7-6 (3) in the final. It was the 14th title on grass and 79th overall for the 32-year-old Swiss.
The seven-time Wimbledon champion improved his record to 46-5 in 12 appearances at the tournament where he made his debut 14 years ago.

Roger Federer posted his first victory of 2013 Sunday, besting Russian Mikhail Youzhny to claim his sixth career Gerry Weber Open title.
The Swiss icon shot past Youzhny 6-3, 6-4 in the grass-court Wimbledon tuneup event, improving to 15-0 all-time against the Russian.
Federer, who will be seeking to defend his Wimbledon crown later this month, ran his all-time grass-court record to 121-17 with Sunday's victory.
His only other finals appearance this year came at in Rome, where he fell to Rafael Nadal. The Swiss superstar also fell to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga last weekend at the French Open.
Federer previously won the Gerry Weber event in 2003-06 and in 2008.
