2016 ATP ASB Classic Results

Bautista Agut wins ASB Classic

After American Jack Sock's forced retirement at the final due to illness, Roberto Bautista Agut - world's No. 25 - held the ASB Classic trophy in Auckland, New Zealand. The final match lasted only 28 minutes and Bautista Agut said his win over Tsonga sent him into the final full of confidence. He quickly recognized his opponent was ailing and moved Sock around the court until the American was forced to withdraw.

The final was a strange affair. Walking on court, Sock's shoulders were slumped and, as he stopped to watch the Maori welcome, it wasn't certain he would make it to his chair. It didn't help that it was 38 degrees on court and it was quickly apparent something was awry.

Jiri Vesely wins Heineken Open

Czech qualifier Jiri Vesely captured his first ATP Tour singles title when he beat unseeded Frenchman Adrian Mannarino 6-2, 6-3 in Saturday's final of the Heineken Open.

The Czech, who started his tournament playing on the windswept outside courts in Albany, produced yet another commanding performance to defeat Mannarino and had too much power, composure and consistency for his French opponent.

This was Vesely's first ATP title, but there was enough in the performance to suggest that this will be the first of many for the 21-year-old.

2014 ATP Heineken Open Results

Isner Triumphs in Auckland

World No. 14 John Isner claimed his eighth ATP World Tour title on Saturday as he edged Yen-Hsun Lu 7-6(4), 7-6(7) in the final of the Heineken Open in Auckland.

The American won his first title at this ATP World Tour 250 tournament in 2010, with victory over Arnaud Clement. His two titles in Auckland are the only trophies he has won outside of the U.S.A. He has an 8-9 finals record, having reached four finals last year.

Tie-breaks have been a prominent feature of Isner's run through to the title in Auckland. The 28 year old finished the tournament with a 6-1 tie-break record, prevailing in two more in the final. Isner fired 23 aces, taking his total for the week to 79, and won 77 per cent of his service points to claim victory in one hour and 41 minutes, having been denied on all 10 of his break point chances.

David Ferrer claims his fourth win and enters the record books

David Ferrer has made history today by equalling the great Roy Emerson's record of four wins in Auckland.

Emerson even emailed Ferrer earlier in the week to wish him luck for the tournament ahead.

The Spaniard won the first set in a tiebreak before stamping his authority on the match in the second set to win 6-1.

The top seed was happy to win his semifinal in straight sets yesterday which he believed would allow him greater recovery for today's match and today he was unstoppable.

Such is the life of a professional tennis player. Luck was not on Philipp Kohlschreiber's side. He hoped to replicate his win of 2008 when he beat Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero in the final, but the world no.5 proved to be too strong.

Colin Fleming and Bruno Soares take the win

Top seeds Colin Fleming and Bruno Soares have claimed the Heineken Open doubles title at the ASB Tennis Arena in Auckland today.

The Scot and Brazilian, who were playing in their first tournament together, won two tie-breaker sets to win the final against Sweden's Johan Brunstrom and Denmark's Frederik Nielsen.

The winning pair were in total control once the sets got to tie break time. They won the first tiebreak 7-1 and the second 7-2 to grab the Heineken Open doubles crown 7-6 7-6 in just over one and a half hours.

Fleming and Soares were only troubled this week by the Kiwis Dan King-Turner and Michael Venus who took them to three sets on Monday night.
