2015 Qatar ExxonMobil Open Winner - Ferrer wins Qatar Open
David Ferrer won his 22nd career ATP title when he defeated Tomas Berdych 6-4, 7-5 in the Qatar Open final.
Ferrer made it six consecutive years he has won at least one title. The Spaniard improved his record to 8-5 against Berdych, whose finals record slumped to 10-15.
Berdych was not surprised by the quality of play from Ferrer, a day after the Spaniard battled through three tiebreak sets against seventh-seeded Ivo Karlovic of Croatia in the semifinals.
Ferrer began the final by breaking the third-seeded Berdych in the first game, and raced to 4-1. Berdych hadn't dropped his serve in 34 service games through the semifinals, but surrendered four of eight service break opportunities to Ferrer. In the second set, Berdych had three set points on Ferrer's serve in the 10th game, but the Spaniard managed to hold for 5-5.
2014 Qatar ExxonMobil Open Winner - Nadal wins Qatar Open
Rafael Nadal defeated Gael Monfils in three sets Saturday at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open, collecting his 61st ATP championship.
Nadal won three-quarters of the points on serve in a 6-1, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2 win over Monfils, whom he has beaten nine times in 11 meetings.
The 61 ATP titles for Nadal break a tie with Andrea Agassi for eighth-most all time. Guillermo Villas, who won 62 times, is seventh on the list and Bjorn Borg and Pete Sampras are tied for fifth with 64 titles.
Nadal retook the world No. 1 ranking last year when he amassed 10 titles.
He raced through the first set Saturday in 23 minutes, and Monfils converted his only break chance of the match and won one point off Nadal's serve in the tiebreaker to get to a third set.
Monfils managed four break chances in the final set but Nadal saved them all and then capped to title with his fifth break of the day.
