2015 Miami Tennis Open Results - Novak Djokovic beats Andy Murray to win fifth Miami Open title
Novak Djokovic captured his third title of the calendar year in a thrilling three-set match with Andy Murray. The world number one prevailed 7-6 (7-3) 4-6 6-0 in hot and humid conditions to win his fifth Miami title.
Djokovic was quick to seize the initiative in the tiebreaker, racing to a 4-0 lead, and despite a double fault Djokovic had quickly wrapped up the decider 7/3. The second set went with serve until Djokovic, looking weary and frustrated, was broken in the final game, gifting Murray a double fault for 0-30 before the Brit belted two winners to force a third set. But the Serb regrouped, storming through the third set for the win.
World number one Serena Williams claimed her eighth Miami Open title on Saturday night with a straight-sets demolition of the Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro.
2013 Sony Tennis Open Results - Andy Murray Defeats David Ferrer to Win Title
After falling behind early, Andy Murray rallied to beat David Ferrer in the finals of the 2013 Sony Tennis Open by a score of 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-1).
The final was as close as possible, coming down to a tiebreak in the third and final set. By the end of the match, the two men could barely stand.
In the first set, Murray did not even look like himself. Ferrer went up 5-0 right away, and it did not seem like the Scottish player could do anything about it. Although he eventually won two games, he could not win a third and double-faulted to lose the opening set.
Fortunately, the second set was much more exciting. After Murray took a 4-2 lead, Ferrer came right back to tie the set thanks to a number of wins in long rallies of 20 shots or more. In the end, the No. 2 seed came through with the much-needed win and won the set 6-4.
The third set was more of the same, with the two trading punches back and forth until Murray was finally able to pull away in the tiebreak.
Ferrer had gotten as close as championship point in the third set, but he was unable to secure the victory.
While it was not always pretty, Murray hit shots when it mattered, and he did enough to come away with the win.
AZARENKA BEATS SHARAPOVA FOR SECOND SONY ERICSSON OPEN TITLE
A victorious Victoria Azarenka dropped her racquet and celebrated with tears after winning her second Sony Ericsson Open title, defeating Maria Sharapova 6-1, 6-4.
The Belarusian player won the match in 1 hour 46 minutes and, with an overwhelmingly aggressive return game, allowed Sharapova to hold serve only once in the match. Azarenka won eight break points and hit 19 winners to close out the match and hoist the champion's trophy for the second time in three years.
DJOKOVIC DENIES NADAL AGAIN TO TAKE PULSATING FINAL
Players on the ATP World Tour will have to wait until the clay court season to have another opportunity to end Novak Djokovic's undefeated reign in 2011.
In one of the most electrifying men's singles finals in Sony Ericsson Open history, the Serbian defeated World No. 1 Rafael Nadal for the second consecutive ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event after winning at Indian Wells two weeks ago, upending the Spaniard 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(4) to win his second Sony Ericsson Open Sunday afternoon. "As I said on the court, it was one of the closest and best finals that I have played ever," a pleased Djokovic told reporters after his win.
