The Arkansas Razorbacks are among the top seeds left in the NCAA baseball tournament as it shifts to Omaha for the College World Series. While defending champion Florida and Oregon State are commonly looked upon as the favorites, don’t discount the chances of the Razorbacks. They will open the double-elimination tournament with a matchup against the Texas Longhorns.
Arkansas went 44-19 in the regular season and finished in 18-12 place in the SEC. The Razorbacks boast four different players with 13 home runs or more, as Casey Martin, Carson Shaddy, Heston Kjerstad and Eric Cole hope to lead the offense to a solid showing in the CWS.
Texas went 42-21 on the season and went 17-7 in Big 12 Conference play. Texas has the most potent bat in the game as Kody Clemens is hitting .356 on the season with 24 homers and 72 RBIs. The Longhorns are the underdogs in this matchup and the winner gets a huge boost in the goal of making it to the national championship series. Arkansas cruised through its regional, knocking off Oral Roberts, Southern Miss and Dallas Baptist in succession to advance to the Super Regionals. The Razorbacks hosted the South Carolina Gamecocks with a trip to Omaha on the line and were pushed to three games before emerging victorious.
Arkansas won the opener by a score of 9-3 before South Carolina pulled even with an 8-5 win. The Razorbacks dominated with a 14-4 victory to advance.
