Old School Meets New School
The Spurs swept the season series with Memphis and continued that level of success into the playoffs. Over their last eight head-to-head meetings, the Spurs have won each game and failed to cover the spread only twice. The latest of those times came on Friday in a nine-point win. Can Memphis cover again with this game at home on Sunday?...
The Houston Rockets have officially gotten over the hump. They gave everything they had in Game 3 to beat the Golden State Warriors and get on the board in this series, but they've got a long way to go in order to really make the defending champs sweat....
The stars are back in alignment and everything’s right in the Thunders’ world. After a stunning upset in Game 2, Oklahoma City got back to doing what it does and the Mavericks were no match. And it doesn’t look good for Dallas the rest of the way now that the bad game is out of the Thunder’s system....
The playoff-challenged Raptors needed something good to happen. They rolled into Indiana and made it happen. Winning on the road in the postseason for just the fifth time in franchise history, Toronto took back homecourt advantage and now goes for the jugular against a reeling Pacers squad....
Portland is in an all too familiar place after Wednesday’s Game 2 loss. For the third straight year the Blazers are down 0-2 in a playoff series. They lost Game 3 the past two times and will try and reverse that trend when they host the Clippers on Saturday....
That strong finish the Charlotte Hornets had to the end of the season means absolutely nothing right now. Looking for their first postseason victory since 2002, the Hornets are hopeful a return to North Carolina is just what they need to get back in this series....
The best team in the Eastern Conference played like it on Wednesday. Now, the Detroit Pistons must play their first home playoff game in seven years from a deep hole after losing twice in Cleveland....
The Warriors played one game with MVP Stephen Curry and one game without him. They won both to build a 2-0 series lead. That’s not very comforting for the Rockets, who hope getting on their own floor can change the tide in this series....
It’s highly unlikely a change of venue will affect the outcome of this series. San Antonio engineered yet another blowout of the Memphis Grizzlies in Game 2, downing the visitors 94-68 Tuesday to become just the third team in NBA postseason history to win each of its first two contests by 25 points or more....
It’s difficult to win a game when you score seven points in a quarter – yes, seven points in a quarter. The Celtics found that out Tuesday and fell in a 0-2 hole in the series. Atlanta is a good defensive team, but come on. With the teams heading to Boston, look for a different Celtics team in Game 3....
Now that their seven-game postseason losing streak is over, maybe it’s time for the Toronto Raptors to start a winning streak. They’ll need some help from All-Star DeMar DeRozan, who has yet to show up in the series. If he does, the Raptors likely take a series lead over the Pacers....
The Thunder can put the brooms away and better start learning how to close out games. OKC blew another fourth quarter lead Monday and the huge underdog Mavericks stole a game to knot the best-of-seven series at 1-1 heading back to Big D....
The Portland Trail Blazers thought they had a chance until Blake Griffin showed up. Griffin and the Clippers dominated in Game 1 and look to take a 2-0 series lead on Wednesday. The Blazers defied the odds to get here and they aren’t going away without a fight, however....
Cleveland’s Big Three became the Big One by the time the NBA Finals rolled around last season. With the three stars in the lineup and healthy, the Cavaliers are expected to make another long playoff run. The Big Three combined for 81 points in Game 1 and look to put the Pistons in a big hole on Wednesday....
The Heat-Hornets series was expected to be one of the most competitive in the NBA playoffs’ first round. It still may be. Sunday, though, it was far from it. Miami dismantled Charlotte for four quarters and the Hornets have to help themselves if they wish to even the series on Wednesday....
Overshadowed by Golden State’s historic run, the Spurs put together their own momentous season and they have no intention of easing up. The injury-ravaged Grizzlies were no match in Game 1 and will at least try and to be competitive on Tuesday....
The Celtics are eager to make some postseason noise, but will have to do so now without starting guard Avery Bradley, who is out for the series with an injury. Boston was loud in the opener, storming back from a 19-point deficit, but couldn’t hold on. The C’s look to even the series on Tuesday night....
Many fans wrote the Rockets off late in the regular year after a disappointing loss to Phoenix. Houston responded after that loss winning its final three games by a combined 79 points to earn this first-round matchup. Those games were against lottery-bound clubs and not the Warriors, so it’s hard to think Houston has much of a chance. But there is a chance....
The Oklahoma City Thunder flew under the radar as the third-best team in the Western Conference this season. The duo of Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook fuel the NBA’s second-highest scoring offense against a Mavericks squad that had success once it slowed the pace....
By any measure, the Raptors enjoyed the most successful regular season in franchise history. It won’t mean much unless Toronto finally performs in the playoffs. The Raptors topped 50 wins for the first time with a team record 56 and claimed their third straight Atlantic Division crown. But the bigger goal now is to win the franchise’s first seven-game playoff series....
At least the teams won’t have to travel far. After ending the regular season in a matchup of reserves with Detroit’s B team getting the better of the Cavs’ B team, the regulars will get back on the floor when the team’s begin their first round series Sunday at The Q....
Dallas maneuvered into the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference and will avoid having to play the Spurs in the first round. Instead, the Mavericks open at Oklahoma City against a team that swept the four-game regular season series....
Heading into this season the playoffs seemed like a longshot. But the Trail Blazers defied preseason expectations and made the postseason as the fifth seed in the Western Conference. Portland is playing with house money entering their first round series with the favored Clippers....
The Hawks head into the postseason facing much lower expectations than a year ago. But they do have homecourt advantage when they open against the Celtics, who matched Atlanta’s win total during the regular season, but lost out on a tie-breaker....
It’s hard to take Memphis seriously in this matchup after losing 14 of their final 17 regular season games. It’s even more difficult to envision the banged up Grizzlies winning in San Antonio, where the Spurs fell just once all season....
