Tacitus had an eventful showing at the Kentucky Derby, brushing against other horses and eventually finishing near the front of the pack, with a fourth place finish that was eventually elevated to third. He did not run in the Preakness and has now been instituted as the favorite as the Belmont Stakes await on Saturday, wrapping up the Triple Crown races of 2019.
There is one clear contender to Tacitus, and that is War of Will, who is coming off a victory at the Preakness. Even though these are the two most talented horses in the field, the long race can oftentimes lead to some surprises, so the longshots have to feel like there is certainly a chance to claim the upset victory.
The Kentucky Derby was noteworthy because Maximum Security was disqualified after winning, and the Preakness saw a horse finish the race even after its jockey fell off. Will the Belmont Stakes add to the craziness of the Triple Crown races? Tune in on Saturday to find out in horse racing odds.
The Belmont Stakes will be held at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York at 6:48 p.m. ET on Saturday, June 8th, 2019. The race will be nationally televised on NBC.

A Look At The Favorites
Tacitus is the son of Tapit, which has tended to be a big deal in the recent Belmont Stakes, as three of the past five winners have been his descendants. The oddsmakers clearly believe in Tacitus’ ability to come out on top, especially against a field with several question marks beyond War of Will. Tacitus should be nice and rested for this one, which could be a big deal down the stretch.
War of Will, meanwhile, has to muster up enough energy if he is to win another race. It has only been three weeks since the Preakness and War of Will also ran at the Kentucky Derby, so fatigue has to be factored in. Even so, War of WIll might be the best horse in the field and the odds reflect that.
Those are the clear top two, but there are other horses in the field which hope to stun War of Will and Tacitus. Master Fence had a really nice finish at the Kentucky Derby, and the longer race should fit well into his strengths. If Master Fence can keep with the front-runners and then have a strong kick, a win is possible.
Intrepid Heart is an intriguing choice. Todd Pletcher is a great trainer and should have this horse ready to go. The results haven’t been there of late but the pedigree cannot be ignored. Everfast finished in second place in the Preakness and is hoping to use that as a springboard to another great run in the Belmont Stakes.

The longshots are hoping to stick around but this seems likely to come down to the big two. War of Will may be the more talented horse but the heavy workload is going to be a factor down the stretch. Tacitus is the deserving favorite and is the pick to win the Belmont Stakes, even at these odds in horse racing betting lines.
Horse Racing Pick: Tacitus to win the Belmont Stakes at 9-5 odds
