More than anything else the fact that horse racing has been the one sport that has not closed during COVID-19 has been impressive. Racing has continued even as all other major sports shut down. Churchill Downs – Louisville, Kentucky – Saturday and Sunday
Saturday features a total of 11 races on the Churchill Downs card with the $100,000 Winning Colors Stakes and Old Forester Mint Julep Stakes serving as the marquee events. Sunday will then offer 11 more races.
First place in the current Churchill Downs meet jockey standings belongs to Jose L. Ortiz with over $369,000 in earnings. Ortiz has 42 starts with five wins, four second, and eight third place finishes. Second place in the jockey standings belongs to Joel Rosario with over $293,000 in earnings. Rosario has five wins, seven second and five third place finishes. While third place goes to Tyler Gaffalione with over $289,000 in earnings. Gaffalione has 35 starts with five wins, five second, and three third place finishes.
Santa Anita Park – Arcadia, California – Saturday and Sunday
Saturday’s card has nine races scheduled. Headlining Saturday’s card is the $100,000 Honeymoon Stakes. Sunday will feature 10 more races on the horse racing board.
Flavien Prat has been the top jockey at the current Santa Anita meet with over $3.2 million in earnings. Overall Pratt has 249 starts with 62 wins, 44 second, and 42 third place finishes. Second place in the Santa Anita jockey standings is Abel Cedillo with over $3 million in earnings. Cedillo has 322 starts with 51 wins, 51 second, and 41 third place runs.
Tampa Bay – Oldsmar, Florida - Saturday
Saturday will feature a total of nine horse races on the Tampa Bay card.
There are three jockeys that have stood apart from the rest at the current Tampa Bay meet. Samy Comacho, Antonia A. Gallardo, and Daniel Centeno have surpassed the $1.4 million mark in total earnings. Just as important is the fact that each jockey has a win percentage of over 21%.
Gulfstream Park – Hallandale, Florida – Saturday and Sunday
This weekend Gulfstream Park will feature 11 races on Saturday with 10 more on Sunday.
There are three jockeys that have dominated the Gulfstream Park meet with over $1 million in earnings. Luis Saez has 233 starts with 49 wins, 38 second, and 32 third place finishes. Second place Irad Ortiz Jr. has 120 starts with 37 wins, 30 second, and 18 third place finishes. Edgard J. Zavas has 258 starts with 33 wins, 40 second, and 34 third place runs. Most impressive is the fact that Ortiz Jr. has a win percentage of 31%.
Remington Park – Oklahoma City – Saturday
There will be a total of 12 races on the Remington Park Card for Saturday.
