As the summer meet season comes to a close over Labor Day weekend some of the biggest races of the season will take place to send everyone home with great memories of a difficult but successful Horse Racing season. In particular Saratoga once again lived up to its reputation as an American classic. Saratoga will bring one of the top schedules of the entire 2020 campaign on its Monday Labor Day card to wrap up the summer meet. So too will Del Mar pack it in after Monday. With heavy but hopeful hearts we have a special Monday to kick off a loaded week of action.
Let’s now take a look at the highlights of this week’s schedule from tracks across North America!
Saratoga – Saratoga Springs, New York – Monday
Saratoga has a Monday Labor Day card featuring a whopping total of 14 races with two features. The Lure Stakes is worth $85,000 while the Grade 1 Runhappy Hopeful Stakes is the main event worth $250,000.
First place in the jockey standings at Saratoga is Irad Ortiz Jr with over $4.2 million in earnings. Ortiz has 268 starts with 57 wins, 46 second, and 41 third place finishes.
Second place at Saratoga is jockey Jose L Ortiz with over $4.1 million in winnings. He has 265 starts with 57 wins, 51 second, and 35 third place finishes.
Remington Park – Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – Thursday and Friday
Remington Park has a total of nine races scheduled for Thursday with nine more races on the card for Friday including two features. The $50,000 Oklahoma Stallion Stakes will run two races for both colts and geldings and then for fillies.
Gulfstream Park – Hallandale, Florida – Monday, Thursday, and Friday
Labor Day Monday brings a total of 13 races on the Gulfstream Park card with three features. Those would be the $100,000 Benny the Bull, the $75,000 Monroe, and $75,000 Mr. Steele.
And then on Thursday and Friday Gulfstream Park will have a total of nine races scheduled.
Del Mar- Del Mar, California – Monday
Monday at Del Mar brings a schedule of 12 races and two features. The $100,000 Del Mar Juvenile Turf and the Grade 1 $250,000 Runhappy Del Mar Futurity get top billing.
Arlington Park - Arlington Heights, Illinois – Thursday and Friday
There are eight races on the Arlington Park card for both Thursday and Friday.
Monmouth Park – Oceanport, New Jersey – Monday
Monday has a total of 10 races on the Monmouth Park card with the main event being the $100,000 Sorority Stakes.
Woodbine – Rexdale, Ontario – Monday and Friday
Monday brings a total of nine races to the Woodbine schedule. The same is the case for Friday.
Laurel Park – Laurel, Maryland – Monday, Thursday and Friday
It will indeed be a day of Labor for Monday with 14 races at Laurel Park. There are 10 races on the Laurel Park card for both Thursday and Friday.
Delaware Park – Wilmington, Delaware – Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday
Monday begins the week at Delaware Park with 10 races on the card. Then there are 10 more races each day for Wednesday and Thursday.
Parx Racing – Bensalem, Pennsylvania – Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday
Parx will get the week started off in grand fashion with a total of 13 races and five features on the card for Monday. All five features are worth $80,000. They are the Banjo Picker Sprint, the Dr Teresa Garofalo Memorial, the Marshall Jenney Handicap, the Mrs. Penny Stakes, and the Storm Cat Stakes. Tuesday will bring 12 more races with 11 races set for Wednesday.
Prairie Meadows - Altoona, Iowa – Monday and Friday
Monday has nine races on the schedule at Prairie Meadows. While Friday has a card of 10 races on the schedule.
