Summer means the peak of horse racing season with several meets at the biggest tracks in the country. In particular Belmont Park, Santa Anita Park, and Churchill Downs offer the prestigious reputations of having the best horses, trainers and jockeys in the world. Many horse racing fans will plan vacations for this time of year in order to take in all of the high-quality action. With that in mind it is going to be another busy week for the ponies.
Let’s now take a look at the highlights of this week’s schedule from tracks across North America!
Tampa Bay – Oldsmar, Florida – Monday and Wednesday
Monday features eight races on the Tampa Bay card with eight more scheduled for Wednesday. There is a trio of jockeys that have dominated Tampa Bay this meet.
Antonio A. Gallardo has earned over $1.6 million in prize money so far. Gallardo has 535 starts with 122 wins, 84 second place and 70 third place finishes.
Samy Comacho has posted over $1.6 million in winnings thus far with 457 starts, 96 wins, 74 second, and 72 third place finishes.
Daniel Centeno has over $1.5 million in earnings as the third-place jockey with 426 starts, 94 wins, 80 second, and 68 third place finishes.
Churchill Downs – Louisville, Kentucky – Thursday and Friday
Thursday features nine races on the Churchill Downs card with nine more races set for Friday.
So far at the Churchill Downs meet Tyler Gaffalione leads the jockey standings with over $825,000 in earnings. He has 82 starts, 15 wins, 19 second, and nine third place finishes.
Second place at Churchill Downs goes to jockey Ricardo Santana Jr. with over $592,000 in earnings. Santana has 77 starts with 11 wins, seven second, and 10 third place finishes.
Third place at Churchill Downs belongs to Cory J. Lanerie with over $547,000 in earnings. Lanerie has 92 starts with 12 wins, nine second, and 13 third place finishes.
Santa Anita Park – Arcadia, California – Thursday and Friday
Friday at Santa Anita will include eight races. Santa Anita Park features a tremendous roster of top jockeys.

Gulfstream Park – Hallandale, Florida – Wednesday and Friday
Wednesday at Gulfstream Park will offer 10 races on the card with Friday offering 10 additional races.
Edward J. Zavas leads the Gulfstream Park jockey standings with over $1.3 million in earnings. Zavas has 312 starts with 44 first, 51 second, and 39 third place finishes.
Emisael Jaramillo has $1.2 million in earnings with 290 starts, 40 first, 37 second and 32 third place finishes.
Third place at Gulfstream is Luis Saez with over $1.2 million in earnings. Saez has 233 starts with 49 first, 38 second, and 32 third place finishes.
Belmont Park – Elmont, New York – Wednesday and Thursday
Thursday’s card at Belmont Park includes a total of 10 races and then on Friday 10 more races will be run.
Lead jockey at Belmont Park is Irad Ortiz Jr. with over $557,000 in earnings. Ortiz has 29 starts with 13 wins, three second, and four third place finishes.
