Gamblers looking for action can find it at multiple horse racing tracks throughout North America all weekend long. The Independence Day weekend offers numerous high dollar and stakes races. While Major League Baseball, the National Hockey League and the National Basketball Association continue to putter on a major American holiday the ponies continue to run for big stakes and thundering excitement. This is the perfect time to try horse handicapping if you haven’t yet as the chances to win big money will be greater now that more top tracks are offering major races at the same time.
Let’s now take a look at the highlights of this week’s schedule from tracks across North America!
Monmouth Park - Oceanport, NJ – Saturday and Sunday
Saturday at Monmouth will feature 12 races including the $75,000 Spruce Fir Handicap.
Following that on Sunday will be a total of 10 more races including the $75,000 John J. Reilly Handicap.
So far at Monmouth Park Nik Juarez leads the jockey standings with over $3.8 million in earnings. In 467 starts he has 107 wins, 87 second, and 89 third place finishes.
Right behind Juarez is Paco Lopez with over $3.6 million in earnings. Lopez has 325 starts with 109 wins, 67 second, and 48 third place finishes. He has the highest win percentage at Monmouth with a dominant 34%.
Delaware Park - Wilmington Delaware - Saturday
Saturday at Delaware Park will be a big day with a total of 10 races on the card, five of them quite important. Those would be the $75,000 Cape Henlopen Stakes, the $50,000 Carl Hanford Memorial Stakes, the Grade 3 $300,000 Delaware Oaks, the Grade 3 $200,000 Kent Stakes, and the Grade 3 $200,000 Robert G. Dick Memorial Stakes.
Prairie Meadows - Altoona, Iowa – Saturday and Sunday
Saturday at Prairie Meadows offers 11 races including the $65,000 Cyclones Handicap, the $65,000 Hawkeyes Handicap, the $100,000 Iowa Distaff, and the $100,000 Saylorville Stakes.
Sunday features another huge day at the Central Iowa track with 11 races that include the $250,000 Iowa Derby, the Grade 3 $200,000 Iowa Oaks, the $100,000 Iowa Sprint Handicap, and the Grade 3 $300,000 Prairie Meadows Cornhusker Handicap.
First place jockey Alex Birzer leads Prairie Meadows with over $205,000 in earnings. He has 45 starts with 11 wins, seven second, and nine third place finishes.
Second place jockey Glenn W. Corbett has been almost as good with over $195,000 in earnings. Corbett has 32 starts with nine wins, four second, and three third place finishes.
Belmont Park – Elmont, New York – Saturday and Sunday
Saturday at Belmont Park will offer 11 races on the card with five big ones starting with the Grade 1 $400,000 Manhattan. Also featured will be the Grade 3 $150,000 Poker, the Grade 1 $500,000 Runhappy Metropolitan, the Grade 2 $200,000 Suburban, and the Grade 3 $100,000 Victory Ride.
Sunday offers 10 more races on the Belmont Card including the $100,000 Kingston.
Top, jockey at Belmont Park is Irad Ortiz Jr. with over $1.5 million in earnings. In 89 starts he has 29 wins, 13 second, and 10 third place finishes with a dominant win percentage of 33%.
Gulfstream Park – Hallandale, Florida – Saturday and Sunday
Gulfstream Park will offer its share of July 4 fireworks starting with 12 races on the Saturday card. Featured are the $75,000 Azalea, the $75,000 Bob Umphrey Turf Sprint, and the $75,000 Carry Back.
That is followed by a Sunday card that features 11 more races.
Woodbine – Rexdale, Ontario – Saturday and Sunday
Saturday at Woodbine features 10 races that includes the Grade 2 $175,000 Eclipse Stakes and the $125,000 Queenston Stakes.
Following on Sunday will be 11 more races on the Woodbine card including the $125,000 Fury Stakes.
