The summer season at Del Mar Racetrack kicks off this weekend, and as is always the case here at this storied track, the first featured race is the Grade 1 Eddie Read Stakes. There are only seven turfers entered into this one, but this is still, without any doubt, the best race of the weekend.... 

To say that there is going to be "Sheer Drama" at Delaware Park on Saturday is an understatement. Seven strong fillies will all believe that they are going to hit the line first in a crucial midsummer 1 1/4-mile race at the Delaware Handicap.... 

The Kentucky Oaks winner will be back on the track on Saturday afternoon at the Delaware Oaks, where a field of eight is going to be trying to take her down.... 

A light weekend of horse racing is on tap in the second week of July, but that doesn't mean there aren't some important races available for betting.The Arlington Handicap field won't be the strongest in the world, but there could be some real opportunities for bettors.... 

The undefeated Lady Eli will once again put her perfect mark on the line at the Belmont Oaks Invitational against a very good field.The winner of this race will earn a spot in the Breeders' Cup in the turf fillies and mares division and will most likely end up running in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf Classic, the top race for lady turfers in the world.... 

It'll be a star spangled day for sure at Belmont Park on Saturday, as the Sport of Kings celebrates Independence Day with a pair of huge Grade 1 races on the turf.The main showcase piece will be the 1 1/4 mile Belmont Derby Invitational, with a spot in the Breeders' Cup up for grabs.... 

Three-year old fillies will be on display on Saturday afternoon at Santa Anita Park in the showcase race of the day at the Grade 2 Summertime Oaks.ODDS ANALYSIS... 

You might think that three-year old horse racing is said and done with for a while, but some of the colts who either ran in the early Triple Crown races or weren't quite good enough to get in with the big boys will have a shot on Saturday to claim some glory at the Ohio Derby at Thistledown.... 

A spot in the Breeders' Cup Turf Mile will be up for grabs on Saturday afternoon at Santa Anita in the only Grade I race of the weekend on the West Coast, the Shoemaker Mile.ODDS ANALYSISA relatively small field is expected at the Shoemaker Mile due to the fact that few are going to want to run up against Ring Weekend. Clearly, this is the best colt in this field, and assuming that he does end up running, he'll be the easy favorite, likely of the odds on variety.... 

Saturday is a huge day at Churchill Downs, as American Pharoah is going to be making an appearance in his home paddocks for the first time since winning the Triple Crown.However, it is also one of the biggest days of summer racing at Churchill Downs as well.... 

It isn't just three-year old colts who are heading to the track at Belmont Park on Saturday.Some of the best fillies and mares who run on the grass are here as well in what is one of the most notable ladies' turf races of the year, the New York Stakes.... 

A huge day at Belmont Park on Saturday will of course be finished off by the Belmont Stakes.Prior to that though, bettors could get a good idea of how the dirt is going to run with the six-furlong Truth North Stakes.... 

Back in the 1970s, it almost seemed like it was commonplace for horses to win the Triple Crown.Three did it from 1973 to 1978, including in consecutive years in '77 and '78. Since that point though, the greatest prize in horse racing has been left unclaimed in spite of the fact that there have been a number who have tried. American Pharoah can break that hex on Saturday at the Belmont Stakes, and he is a -130 favorite to get the job done.... 

The Belmont Stakes traditionally features a field of around a dozen horses or so, especially when there is a prospective Triple Crown winner.
Everyone wants to be the one to say that they knocked off the supposedly unbeatable horse. This year though, there are only expected to be seven others who try their hand at beating American Pharoah, the colt who hasn't lost since his first maiden race last year.... 

A huge day of racing at Santa Anita Park features a pair of major graded stakes races.Elders colts at three-years or older will be on the dirt in the Grade 2 Californian Stakes to kick off the day.... 

The only Grade 1 race of the entire weekend across the United States and Canada takes place at Santa Anita Race Track.The American Oaks isn't the most notable filly and mare race in the world, but there are a number of really fine looking horses who comprise a strong field in the early stages of preparing for the Breeders' Cup turf races.... 

Horse racing is a dirty sport. We've known that for years and years. Horses have historically been loaded up with drugs, some of which are of the legal variety, and some of which have been of the illegal variety. They've been put through grueling tests where their relatively scrawny legs, which aren't designed for racing, are asked to run at a clip of over 40 miles per hour, all the time holding up their own body weight and the weight of their jockey. It's all in the name of being the first to cross a hypothetical line.... 

Ahmed Zayat is becoming one of the most publicized figures in horse racing. He and his stable, Zayat Stables LLC bred and own American Pharoah, the colt who won both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes this year. However, those who have been following the Sport of Kings know that this moment has been in the making for quite some time for Zayat, and more success is probably inevitable.... 

It might be a light weekend of racing in the United States, but in Canada, the graded stakes races are just getting started.The first of the season at Woodbine is the Nassau Stakes, a one-mile race for fillies and mares older than three.... 

A long 1 1/2 mile jaunt is in store for nine colts on Saturday afternoon at Churchill Downs at the Grade 3 Louisville Handicap.... 

All eyes are going to be glued to Pimlico Race Course this weekend for the second leg of the Triple Crown, the Preakness Stakes.However, on the eve of the race, some of the top older ponies will be on the same dirt track running 1 3/16 as well in the Pimlico Special.... 

There used to be a point that several of the runners in the Kentucky Oaks would turn around in two weeks and race at the Black Eyed Susan.This year though, there is only one entrant into the second leg of the Triple Tiara, and Include Betty finished eighth of the 14 fillies in that race.... 

A small, yet still quite tough crop of fillies and mares will be on display on Saturday in one of the two Grade 1 races held across the country this weekend at the Vanity Stakes.ODDS ANALYSISThis race is clearly all about Beholder. The super mare has been an odds on favorite just about everywhere she goes, and this race is probably not going to be an exception to that rule, especially knowing that the field is going to end up being relatively small.... 

Generally speaking, the winner of the Peter Pan Stakes will head to the Belmont Stakes in a few weeks.This year though, there is no telling what could happen with the winner of this race, knowing that only five three-year old colts have entered this field.... 

All of the focus this year at Churchill Downs is on the boys who are going to be running a mile and a quarter on Saturday afternoon.However, the three-year old ladies will start their quest at the Triple Tiara on Friday at the Kentucky Oaks, which should also be a fantastic race....
