He defeated Curtis Blaydes by TKO, Cain Velasquez by TKO, Junior dos Santos by TKO, Jairzinho Rozenstruik by KO, and Stipe Miocic by KO; while losing to Derrick Lewis by unanimous decision. Ngannou said this to mmanews.com about his upcoming fight against Gane, “I’m cooking something that I’m going to surprise people with. They think they have seen a lot of my tools, and I’m coming up with something. Having those short fights never really (gave) me an opportunity to showcase what I’m capable of. And I think this might be the opportunity, and I’m getting ready for that, January 22. It’s going to be like a (completely) different fighter in the best way. Obviously, the power’s still going to be there. I won’t take that off. It’s a good thing to always have in your pocket in case you need it. Because even though I want to really (put on a show), I won’t say no to a knockout, even if it comes in the first minute. So January 22, you’re going to understand why I’m the champ.”
Ciryl Gane (10-0, 7-0 UFC)
Gane came into the UFC with a record of 3-0 and he has seven wins and no losses in the UFC. He defeated Raphael Pessoa by arm-triangle choke submission, Don'Tale Mayes by heel hook submission, Tanner Boser by unanimous decision, Junior dos Santos by TKO, Jairzinho Rozenstruik by unanimous decision, Alexander Volkov by unanimous decision, and Derrick Lewis by TKO. Gane has been a pro since 2018 and he has four wins by TKO/KO and three by submission. He has three first round finishes.
Gane said this to mmafighting.com about his upcoming fight against Ngannou, “It’s different, but not because it’s Francis — but because he’s the champion right now. And the champion is a really great fighter, who has a lot of strength, and this is the final boss to my video game. But like every time, if I make a mistake, it’s going to be OK. If I lose, I’m really OK with that. Like every fight in my career went like that. But at this time, yes, I want to do the last step. That’s why it’s a little bit different.”

UFC Picks
I have had some good success in picking UFC fights over the last year and I definitely pay attention to the odds. I respect the oddsmakers and oftentimes I will back a fighter simply because of the odds, but I have to say that in this fight I don’t agree with the odds. I get that Gane is unbeaten but he has only fought 10 times and I am not that impressed with the list of fighters he has beaten. Ngannou has more experience and although he has more losses, I still give him more credit for his overall resume and he definitely gets props from me on beating Miocic. I think the wrong fighter is favored in this one, as I like Ngannou to win this fight.
