New York Rangers at Pittsburgh Penguins
From 2007 through 2022, the Pittsburgh Penguins made the Stanley Cup Playoffs every season and won the Cup three times. Pittsburgh built a strong core around Sidney Crosby to form a near-NHL dynasty seen since the Edmonton Oilers in the 1980s.
However, age finally caught up with the Penguins. Crosby is still a key asset with the NHL betting odds, but the surrounding cast is no longer first-rate. Thus, Pittsburgh is already fading from a shot at the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs. On Saturday, the Penguins host a legitimate Cup contender, the New York Rangers.
Late on, New York has covered 12 out of their last 15 games. In comparison, the Rangers have gone under the total in six of its previous eight matchups. Late on, Pittsburgh has covered one out of their last six games. At the same time, the Penguins have gone over the total in two of its previous nine matchups.
Overall, the Rangers won six of their last eight games against the Penguins. Five of the last six meetings in this series went under the total. Specifically at Pittsburgh, the Rangers lost four of their last six visits. The last three games in this series at Pittsburgh went under the total. Despite their struggles at Pittsburgh, the Rangers are in better form and will get a more favorable road team price.
Tampa Bay Lightning at Florida Panthers
Following their 2024 Eastern Conference championship, the Florida Panthers were written off as a one-off with the NHL betting odds. Instead, Florida is in the hunt for home ice advantage for the entire Eastern Conference Playoffs. Florida has the best record in the NHL and has been a reliable bet at home with a record of 21-9-2.
The Panthers are on fire as one of the hottest teams on the board in any sport. The Panthers sent gamblers to the cashier’s cage in 18 out of their last 21 games. Only one of their last five games went under the total.
Meanwhile, Tampa Bay is in the fight for its playoff life. The Lighting holds the first Eastern Conference wild card spot, with the New York Islanders and Detroit Red Wings only two points behind. The Lighting has had its share of problems on the road, with a mark of 14-16-2. Tampa Bay has dropped four of its last six games. The Lightning went over the total in four of their previous five matchups.
Florida has won four straight games against Tampa Bay. Eight of the last ten meetings between the Lighting and Panthers went under the total.
