We the People is listed as the 2-1 favorite to win the Belmont Stakes on Saturday on NBC. This year’s Belmont Stakes will lack the drama of a Triple Crown and only one of the Triple Crown winning horses is in the race, Kentucky Derby winner Rich Strike at odds of 7-2. Three other horses, Mo Donegal, Creative Minister and Nets are listed at single-digit odds of 5-2, 6-1 and 8-1 respectively. There are three longshots, Barber Road at odds of 10-1, Skippylongstocking at odds of 20-1 and Golden Glider at odds of 20-1. Post time for the 2022 Belmont Stakes is set for 6:49 p.m. Eastern Time on Saturday. Let’s look at Belmont Stakes odds and Belmont Stakes picks.

Favorite
We the People is listed at odds of 2-1 on the morning line. It would be hard to find a more impressive performance than what We the People put in last time out in the Peter Pan. The horse won by over 10 lengths and received a Beyer number of 103. It was the second-fastest Beyer of any three-year old this year. The horse is trained by Rodolphe Brisset and ridden by Flavien Prat. The two questions to answer about the horse are whether he can run the mile and a half and whether he will flop after running a huge race in the Peter Pan.
Other Contenders
Mo Donegal had a rough trip in the Kentucky Derby and ended up finishing fifth. If you throw that race out, he had never been off the board in five previous starts. He is trained by Todd Pletcher and there is no reason to think he won’t run a good race on Saturday.
Rich Strike won the Derby at huge odds but you won’t get the horse at big odds on Saturday, as he is 7-2 on the morning line. He is probably overvalued at these odds, but he supposedly should like the added distance of the Belmont, but the horse doesn’t seem like he fits with other top horses.
Creative Minister ran third in the Preakness, but he still got a 100 Beyer number for that race. He is supposed to be a horse that should like the distance of this race, so he is worth a long look.
Longshots
I am putting Nets in the longshot category even though the horse is listed at odds of 8-1. If you want to take a filly against the boys in a mile and a half race then go ahead, but I am not doing it.
Barber Road is listed at odds of 10-1 for trainer John Ortiz. The horse finished sixth in the Derby at longshots odds and he is a closer so perhaps he can get into the picture late.
Skippylongstocking is listed at odds of 20-1. The horse finished fifth in the Preakness after a wide trip. The horse is the son of Exagerator who won a couple of big races in the slop so don’t just throw Skippylongstocking out. There is an 80% chance of rain for Saturday’s race, so keep this horse in mind.
Golden Glider is also listed at odds of 20-1. The horse finished second in the Peter Pan and was no threat to We the People and shouldn’t be a threat in this year’s Belmont.
Belmont Stakes Picks
I know We the People was great in winning the Peter Pan, but I am not taking him at odds of 2-1 to win the Belmont. I think it is more likely the horse bounces and runs a poor race than he runs great again. I am also not sold on Rich Strike, as his win in the Kentucky Derby still looks like a fluke to me. I do like Mo Donegal, as I think he is the best horse in the race. I’ll take Mo Donegal to win and also play exactas and trifectas with Mo Donegal, Creative Minister and Skippylongstocking.
