The Voice Betting Odds
The king of reality television launched The Voice to compete with American Idol back in 2011, and his show has flourished. Mark Burnett’s magic touch has helped make The Voice nearly as successful as American Idol, and the show continues to draw solid ratings even with a twice annual format. We are currently in the middle of the 18th season of The Voice, and the contestants are as talented as ever.
The Voice Preview
The basic premise of The Voice has not changed since its inception. Singers from throughout the United States try out in hopes of signing a $100,000 recording contract with Universal Music Group and a chance to gain national acclaim. Thousands of hopefuls show up at auditions across the country with dreams of fame and fortune, but only a small number make it Hollywood.
Whereas other singing shows have judges watching the whole performance, The Voice uses a blind audition to narrow down the field of hopefuls. All four judges have their backs turned to the contestant when they start to sing, and they only turn around if they believe the person on stage has what it takes to win the competition. If no judge turns around, that singer is eliminated from the competition and doesn’t advance to the next stage.
The other unique thing about this show is that all the judges double as coaches. The four judges are essentially drafting a team of singers, and they announce their intention to bring the singer aboard when they press the button to turn their chair around. If multiple judges turn around to face the contestant, the contestant gets the opportunity to choose their coach, and that gives us the rare sight of celebrities making their case to unknowns.
Carson Daly and Blake Shelton have been with The Voice every step of the way. Daly has hosted every show since the very start back in 2011, while Shelton has always been one of the four judges. Adam Levine was a judge for the first 16 seasons before stepping away from the show, but the other two spots have rotated consistently over the years after CeeLo Green and Christina Aguilera stopped being regular hosts at the end of the third season. Kelly Clarkson is entering her fifth season as a judge this year, and John Legend will be one of the judges for the third straight season. Nick Jonas is the debutante judge, replacing Gwen Stefani.

Blake Shelton has had the most success of any judge on the show by a substantial amount. He coached three of the first four winners of The Voice, developing a playful rivalry with Adam Levine in the process. In all, Shelton has helped six winners go on to win the show’s grand prize, so it’s no surprise that most contestants want to be selected by the country music star.
Kelly Clarkson has had a lot of success as a judge since joining the show. Someone from her team has gone on to win three of the last four seasons of The Voice, giving her an extremely high hit rate during her limited time as a judge.
On the other end of the spectrum, neither CeeLo Green nor Gwen Stefani had one of their contestants win in four seasons of being a judge.
