Olympic Games Betting Odds: For the most part, shooting has been a part of the Olympic Games since the very beginning. There have been a few holes in the history of shooting in the Olympics, but the tradition will be back once again in 2016. All of the medals will be handed out at the National Shooting Center in Rio de Janeiro with competition starting on the opening day of the festivities on Saturday, August 6 and continuing through Sunday, August 14.
As is the case in so many of the Olympic sports, shooting is a highly specialized sport and isn't just a matter of taking any gun and hitting targets. Both genders end up shooting with rifles, pistols or shotguns, and rarely do you end up seeing shooters cross over from one gun to another. There are also different distances in which athletes have to shoot from and different positions as well.
Though all of this seems like minutia to a layman, it's highly sophisticated, and it shouldn't be surprising that the most organized countries are the ones which ultimately have had the most success across all disciplines in general.
The United States holds the record for the most gold medals (53), silver medals (29), bronze medals (25) and total medals (107), and for the most part, no one is particularly close to challenging it. China is the next closest with 21 gold medals and 49 total medals.
