World Cup betting odds: South America isn't a particularly large continent in terms of the number of nations, but it's clear that this continent is one of the craziest about soccer worldwide. There's a reason why four of the 10 teams ultimately reach the World Cup and why a fifth gets the opportunity to join the fray as well through the intercontinental playoff. This is one of the easiest World Cup qualifying campaigns to follow, knowing that there is only one round of play for all 10 teams, effectively giving everyone an equal shot to reach Russia in 2018. That said, it's also easily the most grueling, knowing that qualifying stretches over two full years until World Cup qualifiers are finally determined.

Not surprisingly, Brazil has qualified for the World Cup. The team has 33 points and is virtually guaranteed to ultimately finish atop the South American World Cup qualifying group. The rest of the spots, though? They're very much so up in the air.
With four qualifying matches left to be played, there are seven teams separated by six points, three of which will qualifying to the World Cup directly and one of which will play in the intercontinental playoff.
As always, there are some real do-or-die matches on the horizon. Uruguay hosts Argentina in a huge rivalry match in Match Day 15. If the Argentines don't get anything out of that match, they'll be on the wrong side of the cut line with just three matches left to play.
Paraguay's last shot at reaching the World Cup will come in August and September. The team has a home match with Uruguay and an away fixture with Chile. Anything less than six points probably won't be good enough to stay alive. The same could be said for Peru, who will host Bolivia in an absolute must-win match, then travel to Ecuador.
Colombia, Uruguay and Chile can all reach the World Cup if they win each of their two matches in this term, though clearly, not all of the three – if any of the three – will actually do just that. Peru and Paraguay can both be eliminated if they lose both of their matches in this cycle.
