Chicago Fire FC MLS Betting
It’s now been six years since the last time that Chicago Fire FC made the playoffs. The club has been one of the worst teams in the Eastern Conference over the last three seasons, and more of the same is expected in 2023. Chicago’s big signings have not panned out, and the Fire didn’t make a lot of big moves in order to improve this year. That has led to the oddsmakers listing the club with some of the longest odds to win the MLS Cup.

Chicago Fire FC 2023 Preview
Arnaud Souquet was brought in from Montpellier in Ligue 1, and he is expected to immediately slot in as the club’s new right back. Souquet is extremely experienced after spending time with Paris FC, Dijon, and Nice in Ligue 1, so that should help boost this back line after some rough performances in defense in recent years.
There isn’t a lot of firepower up top though. Kacper Przybylko came to the club with a lot of fanfare last year, but he netted just five goals and an assist in 25 appearances during the 2022 campaign. Przybylko was supposed to ignite this club’s attack, yet he failed to make much of an impact despite having Swiss midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri helping set things up for the Fire. Shaqiri was one of the few bright spots for the team last year with seven goals and 11 assists, and he is the leading returning scorer after Jhon Duran made the move to Aston Villa.
Chicago has a lot of money it could spend in the summer if it decided to make a splash. The Fire netted $22 million from selling Duran’s rights to Aston Villa and $15 million from goalkeeper Gaga Slonina’s transfer fee to move to Chelsea.

The Chicago Fire had immediate success as an expansion franchise in 1998. Chicago won the MLS Cup and the US Open Cup in its first season, giving the championship starved city some relief. The Fire were very competitive throughout their first decade in the MLS, making it to the MLS Cup Finals three times and winning the US Open Cup four times in that stretch.
However, this franchise has recently fallen on hard times. Chicago has only made the playoffs twice since 2009, and the Fire were eliminated in the first round both times they made it to the postseason. That has led to a lot of lethargy in the fanbase, and Chicago currently has some of the worst attendance numbers in the league. Chicago has been the worst team in the MLS through the first three seasons of the 2020s, so it was no surprise to see the Fire rank 25th in attendance last season.
