Inter Miami was willing to make Messi a big offer, but $400 million is too big of a pill to swallow. Inter Miami CF 2023 Preview
This club’s two biggest stars from last season are gone. Gonzalo Higuain announced his retirement after netting 16 goals with Inter Miami in 2022, and Alejandro Pozuelo is now playing in the Turkish Super Lig. However, Inter Miami brought in one of the biggest names in the MLS in Josef Martinez. The former Golden Boot winner and MLS Cup Final MVP will turn 30 in mid-May, and he is looking to prove that he still has what it takes to be an elite forward in this league after scoring just 21 goals in his last 51 appearances with Atlanta United.
Inter Miami also brought in Sergii Kryvstov to anchor the back line. Kryvstov had more than 200 caps with Ukrainian Premier League side Shakhtar Donetsk, but he was looking for a new home considering what is going on in that area. The center back is just 32 years old, so he should still have a few good years in him.

It wasn’t a great debut season for Inter Miami. David Beckham and company’s new club was unable to have much success, finishing in 10th place in the Eastern Conference. However, they did prove they could hang with the other southeastern MLS clubs, securing two wins (and the first win in franchise history) over Orlando City SC and two wins plus a draw against Atlanta United.
The 2021 season wasn’t much better for Inter Miami. They were 2-2-2 after their first six games, but they proceeded to drop six straight matches in a two-month stretch. They were competitive again from mid-July to mid-September and looked like they might make the playoffs after posting a 7-1-3 record in 11 games, but then they lost six straight matches once again to completely undermine their playoff hopes.
They finally made the postseason for the first time in 2022. Inter Miami overcame a -9 goal differential to finish with 48 points thanks in large part to 16 goals from Gonzalo Higuain. In their first playoff game, they were in a scoreless tie with New York City FC for the first two thirds of the match before NYCFC netted three straight goals.
