New York Red Bulls MLS Betting
The New York Red Bulls are arguably the most successful franchise to have never won an MLS Cup. They have made the playoffs for 13 straight years and finished atop the Eastern Conference five times from 2010 to 2018. Now that the Seattle Sounders failed to make the postseason in 2022, the Red Bulls can set the record for the team with the most consecutive playoff appearances in MLS history with another postseason trip in 2023.

New York Red Bulls 2023 Preview
We saw the New York Red Bulls prioritize giving their attack a boost this offseason. They signed Cory Burke from the Philadelphia Union in free agency, and they added a new Designated Player in Dante Vanzeir. The Red Bulls spent $5.5 million to acquire Vanzeir from Union SG in Belgium where he netted 48 goals and added 21 assists in 91 appearances. This team hasn’t had a true goal scoring threat since Bradley Wright-Phillips, and the hope is that he can thrive in the MLS.
A new leader in the back will have to emerge after Aaron Long departed in free agency. Long had been the team’s best defender since his arrival in 2017, earning MLS Defender of the Year honors in 2018. Sean Nealis has replaced Long as captain, and the 26-year-old will be the anchor of the back line too.

Originally, the New York Red Bulls were known by a different name. The club began its life as the New York/New Jersey MetroStars, and they were supposed to be one of the powerhouses in the early years of the MLS. The league wanted a team in the New York area to succeed, and the MetroStars were able to draw a ton of talent that other clubs weren’t because of their location. However, they have been a star-crossed franchise throughout their entire history.
Although the New York Red Bulls were one of the MLS’ original teams, they have yet to win any major trophy. The MLS only had 12 franchises for quite some time, but they were able to make it to just one MLS Cup and two U.S. Open Cup Finals, and they lost all three.
The club has seen its fortunes improve since its rebranding. Red Bull bought the team and changed the name in 2006, and all three of the franchise’s trips to the finals have come under the name New York Red Bulls. They won the Supporters’ Shield three times from 2013 to 2018 as the team with the best record in the league.
