The seventh match of the TGL Golf season takes place on Monday, February 17th with Atlanta Drive Golf Club taking on The Bay Golf Club. It will be the second straight match on Monday for Atlanta Drive GC, as they play Los Angeles Golf Club in the first match of the day. Atlanta Drive GC features Justin Thomas and Patrick Cantlay, while The Bay Golf Club features Ludvig Aberg and Wyndham Clark. Atlanta Drive GC entered Monday having played just one match, as they routed New York Golf Club 4-0. The Bay Golf Club has almost been forgotten about, as they haven’t played a match since opening the TGL season with a 9-2 rout of Jupiter Links GC. It will have been more than a month since The Bay Golf Club has played a match but they will make up for it on Monday, as following this match against Atlanta they will take on Boston Common Golf in the nightcap. Atlanta Drive GC and The Bay Golf Club began the day tied for 2nd place in the TGL standings behind Los Angeles Golf Club. This TGL match between Atlanta Drive GC and The Bay Golf Club can be seen on ESPN beginning at 4:00 p.m. Eastern on Monday, February 17 at SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Three players from each team will battle in a 15-hole match with nine holes of Triples and six holes of Singles. The TGL course is about the size of a football field and has real tee boxes, real fairway surfaces, real sand and putting surfaces that change on each hole. Shots are hit into a giant golf simulator screen which is more than 20 times larger than a normal golf simulator screen.

When the action begins on Tuesday, the players will be playing Triples which is an alternate-shot format with players taking turns from hole-to-hole and rotate hitting shots until the hole is completed. In Singles, players will go head-to-head in six Singles holes. Each player on the team will play two Singles holes. Every hole is worth one point unless a team uses the “Hammer” and each team will begin the match with three Hammers, a rule change that begins this week. The team with the most points wins the match. When a team plays the hammer the stakes of the hole go up by one point. The other team then gets control of the Hammer and could play it again making the hole worth three points or hold it for later. Teams can decline the Hammer but if they decline, they concede the hole unless the Hammer was thrown before the first tee shot on a hole and then they have no choice but to accept. Matches go to overtime if tied after 15 holes. The teams would then compete in a best two-of-three closest to the pin competition.

Fast Facts

It will be the first time for Glover and Lee in this match. The singles matchup between Cantlay and Clark should be excellent, as they are two of the best drivers on the PGA Tour. The matchup between Glover and Aberg would seem to favor Aberg with his distance off the tee, but the two holes they are playing, The Plank, a 302-yard par-4, and Cliffhanger, a 189-yard Par 3 are holes that Glover can do well on. The last matchup between Thomas and Lee has two players who are very long off the tee but the two will get only one hole where distance matters, as they are playing a short par-3 and a medium-length par-5.
