Miami Marlins 2025 MLB World Series Futures – MLB Lines
In 2024, the Miami Marlins returned to what they usually are. Previously, it was a rare playoff season for the 2023 Marlins. Manager Skip Schumaker had a tremendous rookie season in producing just the second playoff appearance by Miami since 2003 and the first one in a full season since that 2003 World Series championship campaign. But the question was if Miami could do it again. Gamblers were not optimistic about Miami’s prospects after an offseason that was among the worst of any team. The Marlins were being virtually ignored in the future market. And when you consider the alternatives in the National League East, Miami was up against it as usual. Now Schumaker is gone as is optimism for success. Miami is likely doomed for 100 losses or more. Oddsmakers will be offering large and enhanced underdog prices for those with the nerve to take advantage.

Miami Marlins MLB Betting Odds
In 2024, the Miami Marlins had a record of 62-100 and was 5th in the National League East Division. Offensively, Miami ranked 27th for runs scored, 14th for batting average, 25th for OPS, 26th for home runs, and 12th for stolen bases. Defensively, Miami ranked 28th for earned run average, 27th for WHIP, 19th for strikeouts, 29th for quality starts, 29th for fewest errors, and 22nd for bullpen ERA.
Mami ranks 30th (last) for MLB payroll.
Major moves: Traded 3B/1B Jake Burger to Texas, Traded SP Jesús Luzardo to Philadelphia, Acquired 1B Matt Mervis via trade from the Chicago Cubs.
The Marlins are one of two MLB teams, alongside the White Sox, actively trying to lose. It is, once again, rebuild time in Miami. And so the Fish, under new president of baseball operations Peter Bendix, is trading away any veteran player worth his salt. First baseman Jake Burger and starting pitcher Jesús Luzardo were both shipped off this winter in deals for prospects. Acquiring 1B Matt Mervis from the Cubs is a nice buy-low add, but for the most part, Miami’s moves are focused on being good about four years from now.
Miami Marlins Key Players
At catcher, there is Nick Fortes. Fortes is the incumbent who finished with five defensive runs saved and improved his OPS (.466 to .737 OPS) from the first to second half.
First baseman Matt Mervis was acquired from the Cubs in a trade and is a change-of-scenery candidate. The former top prospect dominated Minor League competition but couldn’t find his footing or consistent playing time at the MLB level (.481 OPS in 36 games).
Second baseman Otto Lopez was claimed off waivers from the Giants on April 4. Lopez became one of the Majors’ best defensive second basemen with 17 outs above average (most in the National League, minimum 850 innings) and nine DRS (second most). But the Marlins also are in need of offense, so the 26-year-old Lopez will need to produce more.
Miami Marlins Manager
Former Los Angeles Dodgers first base coach Clayton McCullough is the new manager of the Marlins. He is in for quite a culture shock going from the richest team in the game to one of the poorest.
