2025 NBA All-Star Game Betting
In an attempt to revive what is a glorified exhibition, the 74th NBA All-Star Game will have a drastic new look in 2025. For the first time the game will feature a mini-tournament with four teams of eight players competing in three games on Sunday. Since the first All-Star Game in 1951 a two-team format was used with players from around the league selected to perform. Up until 2017 teams were divided by conference with the top players from the East playing the best of the West. In an attempt to jolt the festivities the format changed for the 2018 edition with the top vote-getters from each conference named captains and using a schoolyard draft to select from the remaining starters and reserves to make up squads regardless of conference. The game reverted to the familiar East vs. West format in 2024.
During recent years there have been tweaks to the format. However, one thing that remains the same is the player voting process that determines the 24 NBA All-Stars. The five starters from each conference are selected by the fans, current players and the media. Seven reserves from each conference are selected by head coaches. Those 24 players make up three teams in the mini-tournament with the rosters drafted by NBA on TNT commentators. The champion of the Rising Stars, which features, which features the top first- and second-year NBA players in addition to some G League standouts, will be the fourth team in the mini-tournament. The first team to reach or surpass 40 points will be declared the winner.

2025 NBA All-Star Game Preview
For the games themselves a player’s conference affiliation is irrelevant, but in keeping with tradition 12 players from the West and 12 players from the East were selected. For the second straight year Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo received the most votes of any player. However The Freak won’t play in the extravaganza and was replaced by Atlanta’s Trae Young. Recently traded to Dallas, Anthony Davis sustained an injury in his second game with the Mavericks and will be shelved replaced by current teammate Kyrie Irving.
LeBron James extended his streak of All-Star Game selections to 21 being named a West starter. James has also had a lot of success in the game as captain of the winning team in five straight years from 2018 to 2022. His three MVP awards are also the second-most in All-Star Game history. James was drafted to Team Shaq along with Brown, Curry, Durant, Harden, Irving, Lillard and Tatum.
We’ve never seen this format in an NBA All-Star Game making it intriguing from that perspective. With the games decided when one team reaches 40-points fans could get a brief glimpse of their favorite players. During regular season games teams routinely score 40 points in a 12-minute quarter.

It doesn’t have as much meaning now, but the Eastern Conference holds a 38-28 advantage in the NBA All-Star Game. In the six-year era of team captains, Team LeBron won the first five games before losing in 2023. If the current format remains intact we’ll never see another game like the 2024 edition. The East set an ASG record for points in their 211-186 triumph knocking down a record 42 three-pointers.
What we will see is a player winning the game’s MVP, which is always a popular wager over All-Star Weekend. Teams have fewer players, but in order to get the games squeezed into a single evening they’ll be much shorter. Damian Lillard won the award last season making 11 threes and scoring 39 points. Russell Westbrook joined rarified air in 2016 when he won the award for the second straight year, becoming the first man in NBA history to do that. He's not the only player to be named the game’s MVP multiple times though. Bob Pettit and Kobe Bryant hold the record for the most NBA All-Star Game MVP’s with four, while Shaquille O'Neal, Michael Jordan, and LeBron have won it three times.
