Charlotte Hornets 2024-25 NBA Championship Betting
For several years, the Charlotte Hornets were one of the worst franchises in professional sports. Their futility continued last year with a .256 win percentage and the failure to make the playoffs. Charlotte has not made the playoffs since 2016 and only three times since 2005. Michael Jordan owned the Hornets through most of their struggles but has since sold the team. New ownership came in two seasons ago, but it will take years for Charlotte to rebuild into a serious contender.

Key Players
PG LaMelo Ball leads Charlotte with 23.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 8.0 assists per game. Ball was the 3rd overall pick of the NBA Draft out of Spire Academy by the Hornets. He was a 2022 NBA All-Star and the 2021 NBA Rookie of the Year. Ball is on pace for the best season of his career.
SF Miles Bridges is averaging 20.7 points and 7.4 rebounds per contest. Bridges was the 12th overall pick of the 2018 NBA Draft out of Michigan State, where he was a consensus All-American.
F Brandon Miller is averaging 16.0 points per game. Miller was the 2nd overall pick of the 2013 NBA Draft out of Alabama, where he was a consensus All-American.
Head Coach
Head coach Steve Clifford is a basketball lifer who broke into the NBA as an assistant in 2001. He was the head coach of the Hornets since the 2013-14 season, which is a testament to his tolerance of putting up with a franchise that will employ him to work with teams that are outmanned by opposition teams. He had four playoff appearances during his time at Charlotte. He was finally fired last year after new management came in.
Clifford deserved to stay on the job as Jordan did not fully invest in a winning team, per the analysis of Charles Barkley. Charlotte’s problems were not Clifford’s fault, but eventually, he was scrapped, especially with new ownership.
Charles Lee is the new head coach. He arrived from the Boston Celtics, where he was an assistant.

Charlotte Hornets History
Since rejoining the NBA as the Charlotte Bobcats in 2004-05, the second-generation NBA franchise in the Queen City has made the playoffs just three times, with the latest postseason appearance coming in 2016. All three times, the Bobcats/Hornets were bounced in the first round, and they were swept twice. Their best performance so far came in 2015-16 when the Hornets took the Miami Heat to seven games thanks to Kemba Walker and Nic Batum.
This down period is a shame, considering Charlotte was a popular team in the 1990s. Fans loved to play with Alonzo Mourning, Larry Johnson, and Muggsy Bogues in NBA Jam, and the Hornets made the playoffs five times in six seasons before leaving for New Orleans because of owner George Shinn.
Robert Johnson became the first African American owner of a major professional sports franchise in the United States when Charlotte was awarded an expansion franchise shortly after the original team left for New Orleans. Johnson owned the team until he sold it to a group led by Michael Jordan, and His Airness was in charge of the franchise since that point. But Jordan finally sold the team after years of futility on the hardwood.
