Colorado State Rams NCAA Basketball Betting
The Colorado State Rams will be making their first NCAA Tournament appearance in nine seasons. Niko Medved has done an excellent job turning around this program, as the Rams were on the bubble in each of the last two seasons after bottoming out the year before he arrived in Fort Collins. This will be the 11th trip to March Madness for Colorado State, and the Rams are looking to make it out of the second weekend for the first time since 1969.

It’s been a great season for Colorado State. The Rams started their season with 11 straight wins and went 16-1 through their first 17 games. Their lone loss was to San Diego State in that stretch, and they beat several talented teams. Colorado State knocked off Bradley, Creighton, Saint Mary’s, Mississippi State, and Utah State to rank as high as 20th in the AP Poll. It’s the highest the Rams have been ranked in the AP Poll since 1954.
Colorado State stumbled a little bit down the stretch, but the Mountain West was as tough as it has been in years. There might be four MWC teams in the NCAA Tournament as Colorado State, Boise State, and San Diego State are all considered locks by Bubble Watch and Wyoming could sneak in too. The Rams lost both their games to UNLV and fell to Wyoming in overtime on the road, but they also knocked off San Diego State, earned revenge against Wyoming, and ended up sweeping Utah State and Boise State.
This is one of the best offenses in the nation. Colorado State ranks 21st in offensive efficiency and 18th in effective field goal percentage. The Rams are making 56.1% of their twos and 78.3% of their free throws, ranking 13th in both categories nationally. They don’t turn the ball over and hit their threes on a consistent basis, and the only thing they really struggle with is second chances on offensive rebounds.
The Rams are solid on defense. They rank 77th in defensive efficiency by Ken Pomeroy’s metrics, and opponents are making just 32.7% of their threes against this team. They limit offensive rebounds and don’t send teams to the foul line either.
David Roddy has taken his game to another level as a junior. Roddy leads the Rams with 19.3 PPG and 7.6 RPG, leading to him being named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Year and an All-American. Roddy is incredibly efficient, making 57.7% of his field goals and 45.7% of his threes, and that has turned him into a potential first round pick if he decides to come out for the NBA Draft this summer.
The other player averaging double digits on the Rams is Isaiah Stevens. He is picking up 14.7 PPG and leads Colorado State with 4.9 APG. Stevens is somewhat efficient, making 45.8% of his field goals and 36.2% of his threes, and he has benefited greatly playing across from Roddy.
John Tonje has benefited from Roddy’s presence too. Tonje is averaging 9.6 PPG while making 45.8% of his field goals and 36.2% of his threes.
Colorado State has only won the MWC Tournament once in its history. That came back in 2003 when the Rams beat UNLV to make the NCAA Tournament. They are the No. 2 seed entering this year’s tournament, and they survived a scare from a feisty Utah State team in the quarterfinals to make the semifinals of the MWC Tournament. The Rams will take on San Diego State, and they know it will be tricky to beat the Aztecs three times in one season. Additionally, SDSU has made it to the MWC Championship Game 11 times in the last 13 seasons.
