Seton Hall Pirates NCAA Basketball Betting
The Seton Hall Pirates haven’t made it past the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament since 2000. Seton Hall has only made it to March Madness six times since that point, and the Pirates have never been better than a No. 6 seed. They are projected to make it back to March Madness this year, but they will once again be a middling seed due to their middling record. Kevin Willard continues to have some success with this program, and that has kept the administration from parting ways with him after 12 years on the job.

We did see some nice wins from Seton Hall in non-conference play. The Pirates were able to go into Ann Arbor and knock off Michigan, and they also secured home victories against Texas and Rutgers. They dropped just one game in non-conference play, and that was a three-point loss to Ohio State in Fort Myers in late November.
The start of Big East play was tough for Seton Hall. The Pirates dropped consecutive games to the two best teams in the conference (Providence and Villanova), but then they were able to knock off Butler and Connecticut. Seton Hall then lost four of its next five games, falling to Marquette twice, St. John’s, and Marquette. However, they proceeded to win eight of their last 10 games to close out the regular season with the only losses coming against Villanova and UConn. Those quality victories will be enough for Seton Hall to make the NCAA Tournament.
Seton Hall ranked 78th in offensive efficiency this season. The Pirates were one of the worst 50 teams in the nation at making two-point field goals though, and their offense was stunted on a lot of possessions. They ranked in the bottom ten nationally in assist rate, and that led to a lot of forced shots. However, the Pirates were able to do some of the little things effectively. They rebounded very well and sunk their free throws at a high rate.
This defense was much better. Seton Hall is rated 27th in defensive efficiency per Ken Pomeroy. The Pirates were 16th in effective field goal percentage, and they really packed the paint to keep opponents from scoring easy buckets. Teams made just 44.8% of their two-point shots against the Pirates, and Seton Hall also ranked in the top 20 nationally in block rate. Opposing teams made just 31% of their threes against the Pirates too.
Jared Rhoden is the leading scorer on Seton Hall this season. Rhoden averaged 15.9 PPG and 6.8 RPG for the Pirates, but he isn’t a very efficient shooter. He is making just 39.2% of his field goals and 33.9% of his threes on the year, and his main strength is his ability to get to the line and sink his freebies.
It’s a shame that Bryce Aiken had his season ended by an injury yet again. Aiken suffered a concussion two months ago in the one-point loss to Marquette. He scored 28 points in that game, but we haven’t seen him on the court since that point. Kadary Richmond has taken a lot of his minutes, and Richmond doesn’t seem to be totally healthy either.
The best three-point shooter on the team is Tray Jackson. He is making 40.2% of his threes, and he is one of just two active players making over 35% of their triples.
Seton Hall was the No. 6 seed in the Big East Tournament. That earned the Pirates the right to beat a bad Georgetown team in the first round, but they fell to Connecticut by 10 points in the quarterfinals.
