McGregor is the favorite to keep that streak going and claim the interim title, with a matchup against Aldo next on the docket.
Chad Mendes was the late replacement, which could put him at a disadvantage for training. Mendes is 17-2 with eight decisions, seven knockouts and two submission victories. He is ranked as one of the top featherweights in the world, so it would not be a huge surprise if he pulls off the upset to claim the interim title. Mendes has won six of his past seven fights, with the lone defeat in that time coming to Aldo for the featherweight title on October 25th, 2014. He rebounded last time out with a first-round knockout of Ricardo Lamas in April to set himself up for this fill-in opportunity.
This is the headliner, but there will also be four other main card and six preliminary card fights at UFC 189. Another intriguing matchup is the UFC welterweight title fight between Robbie Lawler and Rory MacDonald. MacDonald is the -175 favorite in that contest while Lawler is listed as the +150 underdog. Both main fights have pretty close odds so they could be exciting headliners of UFC 189 in UFC betting.
