NCAA Football Betting Online: The state of Ohio’s favorite FCS darlings are all grown up and starting to terrorize the lower-rungs of the FBS. The Appalachian State Mountaineers have only dropped four Sun Belt games in their three seasons since making the leap to FBS and are one of the favorites to win the conference this year. They split the title with Arkansas State last season and have more returning talent than any other team in the conference. Appalachian State has a good chance of recording its third straight 10-win season.

Taylor Lamb isn’t going to light up defenses, but he can move the chains with consistency. Lamb completed over 60 percent of passes last season and emerged as a running threat over the last half of the season. Over his last six games, he ran for 432 yards and six touchdowns and had a run of at least 20 yards in each of those outings. Lamb will need to stay healthy as there are nothing but freshmen behind him at quarterback.
The Mountaineers want to keep the ball on the ground as much as possible. They had the tenth-best rushing attack in college football last season, averaging over 250 yards a game.
Jalin Moore will see the bulk of the work this season now that Marcus Cox has graduated. Both ran for over 1,000 yards in 2016 and the duo combined to average over six yards a carry. Head Coach Scott Satterfield limited Moore in spring practice to get his other guys some reps, but he will be the workhorse once the season starts.
If Appalachian State decides to throw, Shaedon Meadors will usually be the main target. Meadors had more than double the receiving yards of the next closest receiver and averaged 15.9 yards a reception. He has great hands and will snag anything Lamb puts in his general vicinity.
The defensive line will be the most experienced unit on the Mountaineers defense this season. They return all three of their starters used in their 3-4 scheme and should be better at stopping the run.
Power conference schools better not take the Mountaineers lightly. Tennessee came out flat against Appalachian State in its season opener last year and almost paid dearly. App State ended up taking Tennessee to overtime and would have secured the victory if it didn’t miss an extra point.

Appalachian State dominated the FCS in the mid-2000s, winning three straight national championships. The Mountaineers had the lone two-time Walter Payton Award winner in Armanti Edwards and famously knocked off then No. 5 Michigan in the Big House. That stretch of success led to the school deciding to make a go of it at the FBS level.
Satterfield has been the coach of the Mountaineers since they joined the FBS and he has achieved quite a bit of success. Winning records in each of his first three seasons have this program on the right foot and two Camellia Bowl wins against MAC teams have helped the conference profile.
The Mountaineers are the favorites to win the Sun Belt according to most and have a very manageable schedule. They don’t play Arkansas State or Troy and get Louisiana-Lafayette and Georgia Southern at home. Unless disaster strikes, this team should be bowl bound once again and a 9 or 10 win season seems likely.
